NAD + picstory! Mesa F-30 (56k = Padawan)
So, I finally received my F-30 combo yesterday from Fedex. I'd missed the first 2 attempts because of work, but yesterday and today I have off. And because Fedex required a direct signature, I couldn't just sign the postcard and have them leave it on my doorstep. I scored this lil' guy off of eBay for the ridiculously price of $499. The condition is dead mint, although it's a bit dusty. I'll probably give it a full re-tube, but that's low on the priority list (new PU's are a MUST). I originally planned to use my tax return to get a Rectoverb combo or Solo 50 head, but life got in the way and bills became priority. All is well though because I've had my eye on an F-30 since last year and in some ways I prefer the F to a Recto. Although I think a Roadster may be next on my amp purchase list. Ok, enough bullshittin'... here's my mini-epic lightsabre battle. Enjoy, kiddies.
The Force is strong within you young Padawan ![]() I get sneak attacked by Bowflex and BIO FORCE. They are easily defeated (some random info-mercial on TV) ![]() 7321 comes to the aid of F-30: ![]() F-30 delivers 'Force Choke' upon my ballsack: ![]() I resist the Darkside: ![]() Me delivering the final blow - Victorious! ![]() And here some pics showing off the amp (my camera skills suck balls) Full Frontal: ![]() Front Closeup: These are my settings thus far. CH1 is setup for a warm bluesy clip and CH2 is set for something that resembles a Recto. It's sounds fabulous. ![]() Back Closeup: 2 little EL-84's. These fuckers are loud. ![]() La Familia: F-30 with my RG7321. ![]() In due time, I'll post some clips and do a full review. But I must say, thing is retardedly loud for being a 30W combo (I believe it's actually around 22W, whatever), and sounds really good at living room volumes (Master around 7 oclock). That's all for now. Peace out! |

I'd say the amount of saturation (CH2 + Contour) is on par with a Rectoverb CH2/Vintage mode. It's a lot, but not uber-distorted like a 5150. I must say though, even with the gain/treble on my F-30 maxed, it isn't harsh or fizzy. At loud volumes I back down the treble a bit, but that's only because there's so much preamp saturation the tubes become a bit microphonic. The best way to describe this amp is 'round'.
