Recommend me a wah...
I'm currently looking for a new wah pedal
...What wahs have you used & what did you like/dislike about them? I'm looking for something with a totally transparent "true" bypass so it won't affect my original tone. I play thru an old Marshall JMP 100w halfstack, & while practicing/at home I play thru a POD set to sound prettymuch like my amp. Would I be better to just fork out for the POD floorboard? It's well pricey but would give me the option of using it live I guess, in front of the amp...I just like the simplicity of a pedal or 2 straight into the amp ...What alternative pedal controllers would work with the POD? All I'd need would be patch up/down & the expression pedal, the Line6 floorboard is MASSIVE , loadsa footswitches & 2 swellpedals, I don't feel like I really need all that.Any suggestions are appreciated... |

I really like my Ibanez Weeping Demon. You can adjust it to whatever feel and sound suits you best, and as far as true bypass goes, you'll never know it's there until you turn it on. I run mine in front of a PODxt Live with no issues.

Vox makes the best wah-wah pedals period. And I think the classic/vintage Wah is the best one they make. My Vox wah pedal is the most expensive pedal I own and my favorite pedal I own. I value you it over any other effect whether it be distortion, delay, soundgate, reverb, compressor, or whatever.
I had a friend who swore by Cry Baby. But, hearing his Cry Baby, my Vox stomped it so bad, it wasn't even funny. I played an Ibanez wah-wah and I thought it sounded pretty crappy. A long time ago, I also owned a no brand wah-wah and it sounded horrible. I've played other people's wah-wahs as well. As far as effects processor's wah-wah, I thought the GNX one was pretty good, but still no comparison to a Vox. Vox = the best. |

ahhh the quest for the perfect wah is a seemingly never-ending search
The POD actually has a pretty cool wah model... IF you're already into the effects on the POD then you'd probably be happy with a floorboard Personally, I like to have more control over my wah... It's hard to find one that doesn't overdrive the amp too much for playing clean... yet will overdrive your amp just enough to cut through for leads. Another factor is, what wah can handle the low b string best. I like the dimebag custom wah for it's ability to hold the low end of the B string... and it's ability to adjust the wah settings to sound good both for a lead boost and for a nice subtle wah effect on the clean channel If you're looking for a more traditional wah sound (not a modern high gain)... kinda like the SLash sound on Appetite for Destruction.. .I'd suggest getting the Teese Wizard Wah... It doesn't have much versatility... but it would sound absolutely killer in front of your marshall for leads. It's a very organic, warm and natural sounding wah... Perfect for stoner rock, classic rock.. stuff like that. My favorite wah.. and the one I have on my pedalboard right now is the zvex wah probe. It's expensive... but it goes into territory that you cannot cover with a traditional wah pedal. The problem with wah is that once you step on it... you end up sounding like a 1000 other guitar players that came before you... DO the wakka wakka white guy thing... been there done that.. The zvex is a probe... and reacts to where you place your foot above the probe... instead of how you press your foot down on a pedal housing. So.. you can lift your foot gently and get very subtle wah sounds... almost flange-like... or you can move your foot quickly and get a quick tremolo sound... your choice. The best part about the zvex is the built in boost SHO circuit.. So with one knob you can boost the wah for leads... or roll the volume down for clean parts. It absolute slays through modern high gain heads better than ANY other wah I've ever tried. Just my 2 cents... good luck in your search |

I've got a modded (to virtually a Vox with true bypass) Crybaby that I really like. I used a Teese RMC to record our last demo with, and it was VERY nice, indeed - more aggressive than the standard Vox.
