I usually order all my cable and connectors from Redco Audio

I ordered from Markertek once, but their shipping was ridiculously expensive. Like $23 shipping on $25 worth of Neutrik connectors for "Express Mail" shipping. They did one of those "shipping charges will be added when your order is shipped" kinda transactions, and didn't give me any opportunity to confirm or cancel based on the shipping rates. Needless to say, i was really pissed and won't order from them again.

Redco is awesome, though, and if there's anything you need that they don't have, they can custom order it for you.

Were there any duty charges or the like? Also would they send me say...15 meters of cable, or is it by the roll? Thanks.

I'm curious what your experience was with L.A. Music. I've had a bit of bad experience with them but it's ultimately been the fault of the Distributor (Efkay). So far L.A. Music has taken good care of me through several returns on defective products (also not their fault).

That sucks. I talked to them a couple times on the phone and they seemed really cool. I called about prices on some Roland products, and the dude even recommended me something cheaper that also fit my needs.

Redco will ship you as much or as little cable as you want. I think i ordered about 30 feet of Canare L-4E6S cable, which is available in a bunch of different colours. They also carry Mogami cable (which i also have some of, but i found it's relatively stiff compared to the Canare... better for racks and pedalboards than for instrument cables) and their own in-house brand which looks fairly competitive. (I ordered quad mic cable because i was building stereo cables for my guitar. But if you solder all the conductors together, they work fine in mono applications as well. )

My experience with Canada Customs is that on small orders, they tend to just let it slide. I'm not sure what the threshold is. But on most stuff, you'll have to pay GST, and usually that's it, providing you have it shipped via USPS Priority Mail. Absolutely avoid United Parcel Service, unless you like being hit with outrageous "customs brokerage" fees.

Cool thanks.

I'm not totally up to speed on cable...whats the deal with that Canare and the multi-conductors inside?

Quad cable is a new-ish trend for balanced microphone cables.

What is quad microphone cable?

I used it for my stereo cable, well, just because.

If you just need a regular mono guitar cable, Canare also makes instrument cable that's also likely very good. I love the feel and the sound of my Canare cable. It's got a really nice feel, it hangs and moves really naturally (not too stiff) and there's zero handling noise that comes through the speakers.

As far as buying gear in Canada goes, the first place I look is Axe. I've purchased gear through them several times and haven't had a single issue. Everything arrived in good time and was well packaged. Not to mention the shipping was free (if you order over $200 worth).
