You could see how it would take a while to bias this amp properly. Remove the first power tube, place the bias probe, put the tube back on, turn it on, wait 30-60 sec for it to properly warm up, set the bias pot to 40ma, turn off the amp, wait 3-5 minutes for the tube to properly cool off....repeat 3 more times.....Plus, to do this right, a tech would have to go back and make sure the adjustments of each tube didn't affect the other tube's adjustments. Do the math that is about an hour's worth of work....most tech's get $50-$75+ an hour...ouch.

Or you could grab a Weber Bias-Rite tool and do them all at once, without having to pay a tech to do it. Just have to be REALLY careful when messing around with the inside of the amp, don't want anyone getting friend! If you're not comfortable doing it I would suggest just paying the tech to handle it for you.

But hey, high voltage is a good thing to be on the good side of.

I really don't see any way this tool would work with this power amp design. It would give a multimeter the sum of 40X4 milliamps alright, but not the individual power tube's MA. Remember, 4 separate trim pots, not one.

Someone had used it on a SpiderValve 212 to great success... so I'm guessing it is possible.

Probably just a conventional bias probe was used, I'm sure you can see that a Weber bias rite would be impossible for this design.

The Bias-rite has a selector and shows you each tube's voltage and mA. It would work perfectly fine.

Well you learn something every day. I was pretty sure it just comped them all together and gave you one reading. Amazing...thanks for setting me straight on this.
