Sound Control? Think before you buy, a tale of woe and perpetual dissapointment

OK, so here's a warning for you UK people...

I've gone through a nearly 3 week saga trying to get hold of a monitor from a set of two I bought. I went to their site, saw 10 in stock, bought two over the phone, asked the guy if he was sure they had them in stock, he said yes. Cool.

Went to pick them up, after 20 minutes of waiting, said guy comes back and says they only have the one but can get the other one in by thursday (next week), ok, so not the answer I had hoped for, but they were a good deal, so hence, I am willing to wait.

I go back the saturday after, eventually get the guy who says it hasn't arrived, but that it'll be here tuesday as the delivery hasn't come through.

Now, bear in mind I have PAID for these already.

I phone tuesday, oh, nothing is here, maybe thursday?

So, I phone again yesterday (thursday) and finally find out:

1) It was never ordered
2) The guy that was suppossed to chase the order up as he took the initial order has left, hence why it's never been ordered or chased up
3) Apparently it is on order now

So I've had weeks of phonecalls, speaking to different people, who are all useless, untill yesterday I finally got my account number (nver been given that before) and got to speak to someone.

However, every time bar once when they've said they'll phone me back they've failed to, I've given them my number 10+ tiimes so far as well

So, in short:

1) If you can't physically see it, don't buy from them as they'll fuck you around.

2) Never buy anything over the phone

3) Don't trust their stock clearnace page, it's still displaying they have 7 in stock when I know they have non (and it's supposed to be updated daily)

4) If you deal with a guy called Rich in their London store, just don't trust him to order anything in, and yes, I will name names here. Apparently he's gone, but I presume that's just another lie to try and cover their arses.

I'd have asked for my money back by now if the one I actually have already didn't sound as good as it does, and if it wasn't a ridiculously good deal for them...

There a bunch of incompetent wankers. Stock is poorly managed, many are on commission so if you a)aren't buying that day, and therefore not likely to come back to them, b)paying the full amount that day, and therefore not likely to give them the entire commission and c)paying today but collecting another time, meaning they'll have to make an effort later when they've aleready got their bonus

then they won't give two shits.

Prices are alright at SC, especially with their clearance deals on right now, but the workforce, by and large, is untrained, incompetent and they all have a serious attitude problem and appalling work ethic. Bunch of tossers.

I know two guys that I like from SC, and thats because they both used to work with me at my shop. And they hate it there too.

I'm pretty sure John Strychnine worked there for about two thirds of a year, so I'm sure he could chip in too.

The guys in Derby (Adam, Roy et al) have always been absolutely great guys to buy from, they hooked me up really well both times my old Valveking fucked up and have always been helpful...

...that said, that's the only soundcontrol I've ever bought anything from, or spent any length of time in, so I can't vouch for any others

i know someone who used to be a manager at a sound control and the members of staff have 'sales targets' and the store has a target as well which is the managers sales target really. Sound control have sold out to the sales plague which has infested western economy. The thinking that

'people want and need things they just dont know it yet'

when i walk in a soundcontrol and ask about a certain amp and they dont have it then get the guy trying to sell me a crate stack because 'its a lot bigger and louder and less than half the price' im rather unimpressed....

haha i can sure chip in.
I gotta admit, when u work in a hellhole that is the london soundcontrol, you do start getting a bit half arsed.

oh yeh, it also took sound control + Peavey 14 months to sort my cab problem out. Peavey wouldn't help me out as id "gigged" the cab too much, although id only palyed it at one gig before castors fell off and the eletronics all fucked up. (damage was done by sending it via UPS)

Anyhow best of luck, me personally, i'll never deal with those incompetent sacks of shit ever again.

EDIT: Nick has it right, if you don't hit ur sales targets you actually get warnings and eventually get fired if you dont make em. I was on a SHIT wage for london too (£10k)

So don't blame the employees as such, its probably best to blame the management at the top for their shit paying system.

astrocreep is a jewel in the rough
I once had amazing service from a girl working in the Oxford Street one from a girl who know I wasn't going to buy an amp there and then but might have bought from the Edinburgh shop.

And she was hot too!

But the general message is similar to my experiences. Chasing them all the time etc.

Nicks hit it on the head. Again.

I honestly feel that if you want big-chain prices and don't want to be served by arrogant wankers then go to Guitar Guitar. While the Edinburgh one is good, the Glasgow store is absolutely fantastic, and that was the first time I'd bought something new in 4 years when I walked into that shop for my 6505. Fantastic shop, staff know their stuff, stock is well maintained, and DIVERSE and the staff have a clue and are even passionate about what they are talking about. Repair prices are a little silly, but other than that, I think its the best big-store in the UK.

Yep, i know I should have been more cautious, and I know a few people who've worked denmark street etc, and yeah, some of it is shoddy at times, but most of the time the smaller shops are good.

Sound Control, well, I only buy stuff there is it's cheaper than I can find somewhere else, so I should have known better, but man, it's like, if you don't have it, TELL ME. I honestly think the hassle of getting a refund is going to be more than waiting...

but man, the service goes from good to awfull in that place, like a lucky dip....
