![]() | Epi Valve Jr. do any of you guys have experience modding these amps? i've watched videos on youtube and they sound pretty damn good, so i think im going to pick one up in the near future and i was curious what mods work well for it. i'm pretty sure the first think i'd like to do is put a standby switch on there, but that's about the only concrete idea i've got for now. |

![]() | I have the standby switch, brightness, and gain mods. I also swapped out the tubes. The standby switch is a must, imo. The brightness switch is good, and the gain mod is worthless, imo. Swapping out the tubes made the biggest difference to me.And I've heard swapping out the transformer will make an even bigger difference..but its not worth it to me. |

![]() | I got it all as a kit off ebay(the brightness, gain, and standby) I'll see if I can track down what seller it was again. It was a really nice solder less kit.--just looked in my email and the seller doesn't have any for sale...infact I don't see many mod kits on there..maybe someone else could help you with finding one. I believe I'm running a groove tubes for the EL84, and I don't remember what I put in the preamp....I'll have to check when I get home. |

![]() | from what I remember pretty good. I have both the combo(non-modded) and the head running into a 1x12" "bass" cab..which produces a good amount of low end. My H-207 with Evos sounds good with both. I have the combo on an amp stand next to my recliner and tend to plug straight into that and I really like the tones I get out of it. The head and cab sound good as well, but that is across the room and I don't always play it. I have been playing my Carvin CT4m through it the last couple of days and I'm still happy with it. I have used a dan-o fish and chips eq to help keep from getting too muddy, and I do recommend an eq or something to help shape it a little more. Both of them I hardy turn up a quarter of the way, they are too loud for my apartment, but they do sound good cranked. I'm tempted to get one of the Grendel Sound Dead Room Cabs for the head and use that for recording and playing at church instead of my current rack setup. ok that was a good amount of rambling. IMHO they are great practice/apartment amps. -Berger |
