well, it's all taste.

i like rhythm chunk to be as tight as possible. I've heard changing the rectifier tube helps a lot on tightening tube recitfying, though

Hey, that looks familiar.

Some good advice so far. My personal tastes run to using either C90s, CL-80s, or G12K-100s (since you can't get the 85s anymore) in a tight, solid cab like a Mesa Stiletto or an Orange. The Orange is actually the only V30 cab I like, although I still haven't tried one with my amp. (Bulb, we need to talk. )

The stock rectifier tubes are nice for leads, but too mushy for rhythm, IMO. I use the silicon didoes, and the "bold" setting. Oh, and change V1 to a TungSol 12AX7. Immediately. Then put a good TS-style pedal (insert JoeOvChaos recommendation here ) in front.

As to how to set the actual EQ, put the bass knob where you think you need it, then turn it down. Noodles' "start at 12:00" approach works well, but start the bass about 10:00 with all the others at 12:00 - otherwise, the bas can get overpowering very fast. I use channel two for leads, since the presence isn't as aggressive, and channel 3 for rhythms.

Most of all, though, enjoy it. That's an excellent price on that amp.

Division - American metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on MySpace, and Soundclick, too.

Welcome to the Triple club!

I use mine with a Orange PPC412 cab. I usually use diode's as well, to get that tight chug going.

I personally use the red channel(modern mode) as my rhythm channel, the orange channel(modern mode) as my lead and the green, well you guessed it, as my clean.

Actually, I love the clean channel! It sounds awesome with my Les Paul or my DC727. From fat and jazzy, to clear and beautiful!

I personally like using the settings Andy Sneap used on Nevermore's Dead Heart in a Dead World:

Diode, bold mode

Red channel, modern mode

bass: 11:30
mids: 10 o'clock
treble: 11:30

Presence: 12:30 (I usually dont' use as much, since the album was recorded with an old Dual Recto, and the new Recto's have a more aggressive presence control.)

gain: 12:30 ( I usually use less )

That's for my heavy rhythm. I do use an Ibanez TS9 to boost my signal a bit.

It is used, but the only reason why is because someone bought it. (well no duh huh?) For real though, it is in super dooper mint pristine condition. Only thing is it didn't come with a manual or foot switch... Got some questions though.

What cab should I run with it?
What are some recommended settings?
Anything I should be aware of?
How does it behave with a g-major?
" " " " " " bloody murder?
Where can I get a manual?

I will post some pics as soon as I take some.
1) I've always liked mesa rectifiers with normal marshall cabs, but also like them with c85's going by my rack through them. So I'd say listen to aeolian about the c90's/g12k-100's etc, try a marshall cab and if you can an orange

2) No idea, can't remember!

3) ....

4) Should be fine, but if you are going the midi route, then I highly recommend getting an amp gizmo as well so the whole thing operates off midi

5) Loads of people swear by boosts, and a rack bloody murder means you can use a g-major to switch it

6) Ask mesa, they should be able to help, or look on the mesa site for a .pdf manual, they should have one

Oh, I forgot about the G-Major - do NOT use it for channel switching, you will get a pop, and eventually burn out the relays in the amp.

However, for everything else, it's great. I've been using one for six years now, and I love it. You might want to look into getting the series loop mod done - it's quick and cheap, and Mesa will even send you the schematic - although I've never bothered.

congrats man that was a sweet deal. considering i paid 1,100 more for mine (it was a custom order)all the advice here has been gone over to the n`th degree. all i`ll say is don`t be afraid of the vin 30 loaded mesa cabs, there not as bad as they get credit for.

That series mod only works if you have the effects pot with 3 wires on it. on my unit below, the preamp, I got 6 wires attached to the pot, meaning 6 places to connect wires on the pot. Anything I've hooked up to the loop on this preamp sucks the tone dry. It's the worst effects loop in creation. So for my setup, I'm going with a 6 pedal bypass switch and old fashioned pedals like back in the olden times. Every other scenario just sucks the tone right out of my amp. Even turning the effects mix up slightly muddies up the clarity of the tone.

In all fairness, rectifier tubes aren't in the audio signal path - they're used to rectify AC to DC voltage. Yes, SS vs. Tube rectification does sound/feel a little different, but it isn't like what Marshall did with JCM900's and added clipping diodes for added gain. In essence, diode rectification doesn't sacrifice 'tube' tone.

Cheers, I'm going to be touring a hired Triple in a weeks time, I'll use that as a basis for my sound.
