New Tubes!

well we were practicing this past friday when i heard the ominous "microphonic squeal."

Fuck

No worries. I have placed an order for all new tubes (the guy I bought the amp from said the power tubes were new, but I've never heard of the brand...).
Ordered: 1 Tung Sol 12AX7, 2 standard ECC83s (JJ) and one balanced ECC83s for the phase inverter (JJ). Additionally, I bit the bullet on some E34Ls (JJ), since I've heard and read great things.

I doubt I'll get them all this week, but we shall see!

Ramen!

I was very close to trying out the KT77s, actually. They said they have a bit more low end, which isn't want i'm looking for

The E34Ls have a 'tighter' low end than the EL34s, and Bob recommended 'em, so that's what I went with.

I can't wait to see how it sounds

I just went with the Tung-Sol 12ax7 pre-amp and the JJ 6L6GC's and im quite happy with them. I might try the 2 KT66's and 2 KT88's next time around.

Nice man. I can't wait for my retube. My Cobra's already a super tight bass whore, so so I'm only interested in the KT77s for their different midrange characteristics. Aren't they more low-mid focused? I have my upper mids scooped.

I'm not too savvy with the mid 'range' of the KT77s . With that said, I LOVE upper mids...not sure how you scoop your out

anyone care to chime in re: KTs?

I think the E34Ls will be great, but I might grab some KTs for shits and giggles in a paycheck or two.

My amp has a 'notch' notch that kills the upper mids on the dirty channels. I like em in my cleans, but not my distortion.

So I take it the KT77s have far less upper mids? I wouldn't need the extra bass either, amp's a bass whore. I know Jerich says he recommends them, and others on here have been quite happy, I'll have to search...

tube type depends on the amp really and how it's voiced.

Jerich had Gold Lion (VERY expensive tubes ) KT77s in his Brunetti R-Evo for a short time but ended up going back to EHX EL34s. i played the amp when it had the KT77s, but i think it sounds better with EL34s

xoi will become famous soon enough
i'm running a pair of E34Ls in my single rec, and it sounds really good. the bass is nice and tight and stays that way when the volume's turned up. next time i retube, which should be soon, i'm going to throw a tung sol in V1 and hit the rest with JJs since i've heard good things about that combo.

I'll let you know what I think

I had the same setup in my first recto, except I had EL34s, not E34Ls.
