Tip o' the hat to Mr. Bodenhamer

Shit, dude, my Bloody Murder (#10 ) is even better than I thought it was until just today. I was messing around, and basically threw my Cube 30 on the Rectifier channel, turned the gain all the way down, and messed around with the drive knob on the BM instead to get my gain, and I actually thought it sounded better than using it as mostly a level boost and relying on the amp's gain knob. It kept the same voicing for the most part (confirmed by trying the same thing with different amp channels) but sounded more 5150-ish than the kind of Line 6 Spider III Insane style voicing that it normally has (although the Cube's Rectifier channel is better than the Spider's insane channel, they have a somewhat similar sound).

i was doing a similar thing the other day, turning up the drive and level on the pedal, ad turning the gain low on the amp. pretty cool stuff!

i love how these bloody murders have so much damn gain, i can get into metaly territories with my peavey classic 20 with it (not tight djent djent cuhggghd djent metal tho)

Cool! Yea with solid state and digital gear a little drive from the pedal will warm things up. The dynamic analog clipping in front of your amp is the cause

and joe, the amount of gain i get with the drive at 0 in "hot" mode... it's ridiculous

I do this often with my tube head, set a slight crunch and set the BM on all out distortion with the level up. I get a very tight sound, it can get very high gain if I push the gain on the amp a little

i run low gain on the amp and low gain on the TS.. and i get enough gain! lol. I dont usually run super-high-gain sounds though, unless im feeling particularly "i want death metal heavy" kinda thing. pretty sure the drive on 5 on "hot" mode would send me into shock haha

alright i needs to know

i've owned distortion pedals before, and a few amps, but since getting the peavey XXL solid state head i never really thought i'd need one. i'm also going into Engl Invader 100 territory which i hear by many has tite saturated gain for days which i drool for for my death metal tones of DOOM.

but i've read plenty on this board lately about putting the BM out front of high gain tube heads. what are the OVERALL benefits of putting a BM infront of an invader.

and lordovchaos you already have the head and cab i'm gunning for what would i see here for an improvement in tone, sound, distortion?

Words can't express how much an OD improves the already almighty Invader 100! The Invader really isn't that tight compared to most other Engls. The bottom end is kind of on the loose side. An overdrive takes care of that, adds an "edge" to it, adds clarity, and a little compression which makes palm mutes kick you in the chest and fast note runs not run together. I run it with almost no drive and with the volume almost maxed out so the distortion is all amp the pedal is just helping it. Channel 3 + Bloody Murder = the best metal rhythm tone I've ever heard. I use an OD on all channels except 1 (clean). Channel 2 is my lead channel and the pedal again makes things clearer and the added compression makes solos sound more solid. The sustain added from the pedal is also a huge plus! Channel 4 is my black metal channel I sometimes use a little more drive from the pedal here to add that darkthronish fuzz to the top of the distortion.
