![]() | Difference between noise gate and noise supressor? what exactly is the difference? i noticed the noise gate has "threshold" .. i have an mxr smart gate.. and it cuts the volume great but only when it is on "Full" and the threshold has to be all the way up.. otherwise if i hit a note.. much feedback follows. is it recommended to use the noise gate last in the chain? right now i have noisegate>delay>od>wah. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My noise gate works great as the first thing in the chain, but then again, I'm just going guitar > noise gate > OD > Norbert. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I would go : Wah -> OD -> amp + Delay -> Noise gate in the LOOP. But that's just me. ![]() Become one of us or die, fuckers. / Rick - RHLC V-P. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Depends on what noise you want to cut back. First thing in the chain, it "gates" noise coming from the guitar. In the loop, it's more about amp noise. Works well for me. Some people uses both. Anyway, i'm far from beeing an expert. Someone who knows better could confirm this (or not). ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Also depends if you have a serial or parallel effects loop. Gating in the loop of my Dragon does dick all, it's still noisy. Gating right after my guitar works great. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I also use a Smart Gate in my loop, after the EQ but before the delay and reverb, as the gate would cut off delays and dampen reverbs to a great degree. Delays, reverbs, etc, always work best in the loop, while any OD's, filters (wah) or any grit is best into the front end. Please be kind to snakes. They can't help it. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i found that my OD is a bit noisy when on, so i put my NS2 after the OD. I also use a noise supressor (g-major) in the loop. i don't know if there's a difference between noise 'supressor' and a noise 'gate' since both simply dampen all signals weaker than a given treshold AFAIK. |
