What's going to do there? Reduce the noice from the guitar? WTB Phonic Helix 24 mixer board Fuck US shipping only |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Okay... the noise gate will get rid of the noise from anything before it. If you have a noisy guitar and quiet FX, putting it in the front saves a lot of hassle. If your whole rig is noisy, putting it in the back will keep people happy with you. If your gate has a loop, or you just use two gates, even better. Skinhead, keep in mind that after anything that compresses or limits (say, for example, distortion) the noise floor is raised, and that makes it trickier to find the sweet spot where the gate does just what it's supposed to. The debate is just revolving around the issue of finding the noisiest bits and killing them because you can have rigs that benefit from the gate before and after the loop and preamp. Jeff |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Honestly, as badass as Joe is, I think that adding bass to the TS circuit (a mod I've done myself a few times) isn't exactly helpful. That nasty mid spike is why it hits the amp the way it does, so unless he feels that he's missing bass that he shouldn't be missing... Jeff |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The words 'gate' and 'suppressor' are used interchangably. There isn't a 'technical' difference between a gate and a suppressor. If you set a suppressor high enough, it'll gate. If you set a gate low enough, it'll suppress. They're just terms. Suppressors don't limit the volume... that's a compressor/limiter. In any case, there's really 2 uses for a gate. To kill feedback or to quiet amp(distortion) hiss. If your 'noise' is the screeching feedback type, then definately put the gate before your amp, and as close to your guitar as possible. But if you are using an OD pedal before your amp, you may want to put it after the OD. If the problem is with the amp being hissy/noisy, then put the gate in the FX loop. Adjust sensitivity to taste... cuz there's no way to tell you the right settings for your gate on your gear. Too many variables that affect the outcome. ![]() Metal... Nuff Said!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Difference between noise gate and noise supressor? =spelling Gates then to slam a door between one device and another, suppressors tend to "enclose" the offending device in some sort of loop (i'm thinking the Boss NS-2 here). For the most part the difference is marketing. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | my amp gets squeely, but i have a stupid parallel loop, i havnt been able to get a good gate going in my loop because you have to blend the 2 with a knob. I was going to try it some more to see, but its a pain. |
