if that JCM is in good shape, I would think you could sell it for more than a used 5150 would cost.
that being said, some people argue that the only difference between the original block letter 5150s and the newer 5150s or 6505s were the tubes they were shipped with, so I wouldn't worry too much about it being a first edition or what not |

5150's are really good though.
and Marshall are suckage. I had to record my demo on a marshall, and It took about an hour of our sound tech setting up mic's, and running it through god knows what, to get it to sound close to what I wanted. |

i'd take the JCM800 over the 5150 personally
. but hey, everyones tone needs are different. if you want the 5150, go for it. i wouldn't say it's a bad trade. |

Throw a good ts in front of your marshall, eq it right and you've got a nice metal tone. or go all out and mod the marshall a bit. i've got both and i use them for seperate things. if you don't care about collectability, resale value, go for the 5150

i would go for the 5150. i was really impressed by them the last time i plugged a hr-7 into one.
they can definitely bring the heavy tone.
I'm typing this on my knees with my butt in the air. -Drew

5150 or jcm800. To be honest, I wouldn't trade, but rather sell the 800 and then buy the 5150 if that's the way you want to go.
I got a 5150 a few weeks ago, it's cool, but much like the 800 it's a one trick pony. It does high gain well, and has a good dollop of aggression, but, the 800, with a good overdrive will pretty much do the same. Either are good, and with the 800 being a 50w it'll hurt less to crank it. Having said that, go play the 5150 at loud volumes, and let your ears do the choosing, plus remember that 5150's sound better if they've been modded. |
