Putting a lower impedance cab on a tube amp will cause your output transformer to fry, ie, using a 4ohm cab with the amplifier set to 16 will kill it and present you with a huge repair bill. However, if we are talking solid state, then the 4ohm on the back of the amp indicates minimum impedance to be attached. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | It will be fine. It just won't sound as good as it could. On tube amps it's best not to go too low. If the amp was 8ohm output impedence and the cab was 4ohm, I wouldn't. With the amp at 4ohms and the cab at 8ohms, you won't hurt anything but your tone (slightly). |
