![]() | It sucks balls. Really. It's the worst thing i've ever tried. Maybe smth was wrong with it, but it's more likely that this is it's tone. The drive channel has a very unpleasant sounding top-end. The lows are "dumb", boomy and muddy. The tone in general is out of control. The expected smoothing-effect does not occur with more gain. The tone becomes even more harsh. I had to set the bass and mid knobs on minimum and the treble knob somewere between 9 and 11 o'clock to get just a usable sound. Any other positions of the knobs led to absolute mess. The clean is usable, but if you try to equalize the levels of both channels, you have to set the clean channel's gain to high, so that it's no longer clean at all, but a shitty sounding and inconvenient to play crunch. I've used it with mesa fifly/fifty pa and Yerasov cab with 1 Eminence Legend V12. I wasn't sure if it's the Soldano that sucks so much, so I decided to plug-in the output of my PC (ESI Juli@) to the mesa and cab and tried guitar rig 3 with it. And it sounded great. Well, yes, it sounded digital, un-detaled, and plastic, but the timbre, the color of tone was perfect. |

From what I've just read this is much like the rivera i used to have, as in, some of the models are high gain, others aren't, and that gritty sound and such just sounds like a plexi-like tube amp breaking up, as in, very harsh distortion. I'd try pushing it into distortion, as it sounds like it's basically just breaking up on the overdrive and won't produce a smooth distortion if you tried. Whack a boss OD or a tube screamer in front and see if that smooths it out, but that's what I am guessing your issue is, the fact that it's just not a high gain amp, as after a quick read it seems like there's two versions, one normaland one with a high gain mod. |
