As for the distortion channel, well it's hard to dial a bad tone out of the fireball unless you're cranking the gain or presence past 3-4. The amp is ridiculously tight and has insane amounts of gain. The mids sound pretty focused, like with most engls. In comparison to the powerball, the fireball sounds more raw and has more character (IMO). Overall, it's a scooped amp so you'll have to crank the mids REALLY high and keep the presence REALLY low in order to make it sound less br00talz. The recto is a completely different animal. First, it's A LOT more flexible and you can get from really sweet mid-gain sounds to scooped high gain sounds. The fireball is more like either sterile clean, or high-gain bestiality. It isn't nearly as tight as the fireball, but boosting with a TS really makes a difference. Having an active EQ also makes it way more sensitive to tweaking, which is a good and a bad thing i guess. Good cause it gives you flexibility, and bad cause you'll spend A LOT of time getting to know the amp and re-tweaking at different volumes. In a general context, i would say the recto sounds more raw and open. A HUGE advantage of the fireball though, is that it'll sound good at any volume whereas the recto starts getting fun as it gets louder. I've only turned it up to like 4, and it was insanely loud. | |
