Some Amp Recommendations please my friends :)

Alright, well by mid year i am planning on buying a new amp. I currently have a Line 6 Flextone IIXL. Great amp. But, i am thinking off going for a tube amp setup Mainly, because i am finally getting together a band too play my music live. But, i also just love the sound from a tube. Just a word of warning, i am a complete and utter fucking n00b too the tube amp stuff.
So, basically, just some recommendations on a nice tube amp rig/setup would be great! Just something that has a nice sound, i am talking the lot, cab, rectifier, etc. I am still open to solid state amp recommendations, but only if its line 6.

Thanks lads

Price range, 1500-2000 (tops!) lol I am waiting till mid year for my tax back and saving the other half thats why I mainly play metal, but i love playing clean stuff too. So something that provides both a nice smooth distortion and a very yummy clean tone.

most Peaveys and Mesas do metal extremely well, but suffer big time in the clean department IMO.

maybe a used VHT Pittbull UL or CLX, Brunetti XLII R-Evo. ENGLs seem to have a good reputation as far as clean sounds go and do metal very well, the only ENGL i've tried was the Invader 150, pretty much hated the dirty channels (everyone else seems to love them though), but thought the clean channel was pretty good.

i also don't know what amps are easily obtainable in AU either. Brunetti are probably a little hard to come by, but are exceptional for just about anything you would want to play. and can be had for a decent price used.

yeh thats my issue, its hard to get anything good when it comes too tube amps over here in aus, unless i'm willing too pay triple the price! so fuck that. I am basically looking at buying off this site in the sales area, or ebay! or even a good online music site that sells shit for a decent price. I was considering a mesa, because i'm a huge fan of the tones some bands/players that use it, adam jones of tool for example. I'll definatly look into ENGL and Brunetti. i ain't heard of brunetti, but i take your word because you sound like you know what your talking about lol.

I am open to solid state amps still though, i just want to upgrade from my flextone II. I am just putting tube amp as a priority because i'm a huge fan of the sound they put out. Not that i am saying my line 6 doesn't put a great tone i am happy with, just yeh.

really? ^^ thats awsome. At the moment, i'd just like a rough estimate on prices ay. Because, yeh i still gotta wait 5 monthes till tax back. lol.

Is it evil to mix mesa cabs with say engl heads? Or does mixing different heads+cabs like that just add more spice too the sound? Sorry if this is a stupid question lol I been using solid state for the past 10 years so its a whole new ball game too me the tube amp

Not at all. It's the speakers that count. When I had an ENGL Fireball as my main amp, I used it with a Mesa 4x12 cab w/ v30s. It sounded awesome. As long as your cab has quality speakers, you'll be in good shape.

In terms of a rough estimate, it really depends on the model. Even with how much they cost to ship there (~$300 USD 1-2 day shipping), the Aussies I sold them to would tell me they saved an astronomical sum from what they'd have to pay there. If I recall the last one I sold there was for around $1350 USD. I've sold them for as little as $1250 and as much as $1600, just depends on the model, condition, etc.

I sold a racktifier to an Aussie who told me that he got the transformer swapped and re-sold the amp for $6000.
