![]() ![]() ![]() | Peavey 5150/6505 ???? quest to DG rig. So I've been eyeballing the 5150//6505 2x12 combo and it sounds mighty tempting. Basically the half-stack is overkill right now, and I'm sick of lugging it around to auditions//open-mic's, etc. First things first, yes I have played a 5150 and I do like them. I know a lot of you guys are quite knowledgable with these pups so heres some things I'm interested in as I'm quite ignorant with the amp itself. What's the difference between the 5150 I, II's etc? Should I be looking for a specific year/type? What should I consider when shopping for them? Is the 6505 any different from its counterpart? Will the combo need a speaker UG? and anything else you would care to contribute... Thanks in advance, Matt. my mother.... she never loved me. She always says she wishes shes was a raped by someone else ~Borat |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | What's the difference between the 5150 I, II's etc? the II has an extra channel and seems to have a slightly smoother, refined sound, whereas the I is more aggressive sounding. Should I be looking for a specific year/type? nah, they've been pretty consistent throughout the years. What should I consider when shopping for them? the only thing i'd consider is price. Is the 6505 any different from its counterpart? i've AB'd both, they are identical to my ears Will the combo need a speaker UG? i like the Sheffeild speakers, so i'd say no. personal preference, you'll have to decide that one i do have to question the weight issue you have with a half stack. the 5150 combo is one heavy mutha. i'd take a head/ cab setup anyday, just for the fact i can split up the weight . a 4x12 or 2x12 cab or head on it's own is alot lighter than the 5150/6505 2x12 combo. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Lol, I have a custom built retro 4x12, the thing is a motha, that and it takes up my whole trunk. It's really not the weight but the sheer mass that gets me. thanks for all the info, much appreciated! ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'd also get a head and 212. the combo is 84 lbs. my 412 is 95 lbs i believe. if you dont want shared EQ, get the 5150 II 3 cheers for free gear! "Do you like burned toast with your JAM? cuz we're on FIRE!" ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | the I is a better bet, but i've coaxed good tones out of both. The II doesn't have an extra channel, it just has separate EQ and an extra preamp tube to accommodate cleaner tones on the rhythm channel. Ramen! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | need to leads? the I is a no brainer. enough gain on each channel for rhythm and lead tones. channel one is a bit fatter, but both have too much gain for their own good ![]() |
