![]() | I really want a small Class A amp for practicing and for coming up with some ideas on my Strat with, tonight i tweaked a parch on my Pod X3 and it sounds awsome, but i think it would sound killer with a small Class A amp. I have been tied up on getting one of the JSX Mini Colossal or ValveKing Royal 8 for a while now, but dont know what one to get. Ive heard good things about both, the JSX MC for its tone and its "Boutique" fetures for a good price and the Royal 8 when it has a speaker change. The sorta sound im aiming for is sorta like a Double Verb, but with some hot rodded overtones when boosted with a TS9 or distorted with a DS-1 but when i use my MXR MC-401 it sounds crisp and clear with either a little vibrato, reverb and delay added. Or would i just be better getting a amp that can do all that, plus maybes a little more??? What amp is the best for me??? Thanks for any replies. |

![]() | The Epi would take a bit of modding to get the tone id want. I want good to go out the box basically. I may accept the Blackheart 5W head and a good cab tho. |

![]() | Laney, dont go there, had one once and it blew. I will not own a Laney again. The JSX MC does look like the leader but i wouldnt be adverse to doing a speaker and tube change to the Royal 8 tho. No one got any opinions on the Royal 8. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I tried the Mini-Colossal the other day. 1- Way overpriced 2- That 8'' speaker ain't doin' it imo. Especially with a 7-strings. If you use the direct out = better. FWIW, the Royal 8 also have a 8'' speaker. The Epi Valve and the Black Heart also comes in a combo + a head and cab with a 12'' speaker. I also want a class A amp for home, so that's why i'm waiting for the Peavey Windsor to come out. It has a 12'' speaker, a FX loop and a built-in attenuator for around 400$. These 2 last ones are about 250$.
