Engl invader vs E670 SE
Hi guys! Im new here but im looking for some informations if anyone can help me.
Im a very big fan of Jeff Loomis and Chris Broderick and lately i saw that they are both using the engl Special Edition head.Lately i saved a lot of money for a new amp but im not in a band and im mainly playing in my house, practicing or recording. Anyone tried those amp? Will they sound good at low and medium volume? Anyone compared both? I know engl have a good reputation for sounding good at all volume but 3500$ is a lot of money to put on an amp you cant try before buying. Any help is greatly apreciated. |

From what I've heard the Invader 100 sounds better than the 150, and the Invader sounds really good even when playing with really low volume. Karl Hungus and bulb own Invaders and I think HighGain510 has had the Invader and SE, though it seems like he sold them both.
I know Karl Hungus, bulb and HighGain510 could answer your questions better than I can. |

I personally prefered the invader over the SE.
My opinion, both are really good though, id reccomend you try them both otu first if you can. There both quite different from each other. |

I've got an SE and it sounds fantastic and is amazingly versatile. It also sounds great at low volumes.
As for comparing it to the Invader, you'll have to wait for Matt (HighGain510) or Misha (Bulb) to comment as I've never played the Invader.

Owning the Invader, and having played the SE, you can't go wrong either way.
The Invader is a bit brighter (Although I hadn't played the EL34 SE), and more vintage sounding. In fact, Channel 2 does a mean marshall impersonation. SE is more versatile, but honestly, there's just some sick sounds available on board amps, from clean to low gain distortion, rythms and leads, and it's all midi functional. As for Engls sounding good at any volume, I can play the Invader at lower volume than my Mircocube, and it still sounds decent. |

Having owned both amps, albeit for short periods of time, I would definitely buy the Invader (100 watt, not the 150) again over the SE. The SE can pull out some very nice sounds and has more midi versatility but I do not feel it is worth the extra chunk of change on the price tag over the Invader. The Invader had a more "open-sounding" gain that I really liked. Channel two was great for pretty much anything metal from lower-gain marshall kinds of sounds to high gain goodness.
Both the SE and the Invader serve up some great clean tones and they both work very well at low volumes too. The Invader 150 I owned was busted so it's hard to give a fair review of that amp but I got to spend several hours with Misha's Invader 100 and that one was definitely a winner! My vote goes for the Invader. Good luck man! ![]() |
