![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Can has good cab for za plexi? well, the time is growing nigh that within the next few weeks i will CAN HAS PLEXIIIIIIIII vintage 67 100w superlead. superfuckyouup! so, i was wondering what cab would match up. I need it to compliment the plexi, but i got the high gain mod Diagrams from harry kolbe, and might do that, or clearly i would otherwise often run a distortion in front of it, for high gainyish times (but nothing too ludicrous). it also needs to cope with low tunings, like A, maybe down to low G, on a 7 string. The amp handles it well, but i didnt find anything at the shop that really blended with it. I was thinking of picking up an Avatar G412 vintage, and the avatar guy suggested an x of Hellatone 30s and Celestion classic lead 80's. That sounds like a really good match, but i thought id find out what you guys thought. Any suggestions? James (7dt), i know you have at least some minor experience with plexis, im lookin at you alot (maybe a bad idea , but i dunno who else would know better)Thanks in advance guys. i know my way around cabs decently well, but not around the damn marshall that much lol. Im used to dealing in the realm of high gain amps Reverse Headstocks or Bust Dude...i just got a spam email that was titled "Funky date rape trick" -Zepp88 I just got another funny email "Her pussy smiled at me" -Zepp88 Don't tell me you haven't heard of Raptor Jesus It's important that you know this information :headnod: It will decide your fate when we are pwned. -JoeOvChaosI was going KAT KAT KAT KAT and you were going KAT... chk... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 1. if its a stock 67 plexi.. dont mod it. . murder it. bloody murder it.2. i find that marshall amps sound damn good with marshall cabs - see if you cant test out a 1960A and see how they get along. or maybe a vintage marshall cab? if that sound isnt to your liking, then maybe CL-80 loaded avatar as you said. 3 cheers for free gear! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | if i mod it, its getting put in another head casing first, so id only have to make a few connection changes. no big mods to the case. i think im leaving it be though. i really didnt care for it with any of the marshall cabs there, they had a few different ones. Note that i play shit to the tea of the more aggressive foo fighters, maybe alien ant farm, newer finger eleven shit. not really metal stuff that often |

Basically, just use an overdrive to push it and you'll be in heaven. Trust me. Cab wise, the thing sounded absolutely amazing through blackbacks (or whatever they are called, like greenbacks, but 30w versions used in the mid 70's) I have a cab with them in from before I was born, and it sounds amazing! Plus the cab handles low tunings as well, as I currently have it hooked up to my VHT. Anyway... I'd say avoid mesa cabs, try marshall, but try and find a vintage beat to hell cab for it from the 70's or so as there's something about them, possibly also orange or matamp cabs as they are vintage orientated. Just remember, you also really do NEED a hotplate with this amp if you want to be able to hear for the rest of your life. Is the model you are getting am american one or english? The english ones supported world wide voltage, whilst the american ones didn't. If it's worldwide, and you sell it on, let me know, as I'd love one again (why don't we have a vulture emoticon?) Also, watch out for the on/off and standby switches. Mine had some plastic ones (ooooooold) and then eventually broke down, the plastic disintegrated and they'd catch fire when turned off due to the electricity arcing through the dead plastic! Easy to replace though with heavy duty switches. Also be carefull with the impedance and voltage selector, it's a pin bridge, once you lose it, well, they're not easy to find. Another thing: these amps are lush. Just plug in a guitar, dime everything to 10 and play some AC/DC. It's absiolute fucking heaven. Then go see an ear doctor.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | when i found the amp, there was a vintage 64 cab with original greenbacks. didnt have the cash to lay that away too. it sold that night. 2 days later, the guy brought it back, and asked if he should replace the speakers with greenback reissues. we were really really confused. he left. returned it the next day. day after that, i came to lay it away too, and its toast. gone. goddamn. im gonna order a hotplate tomorrow. i already went and bought earplugs the other day. when i played it at 4 and and it was louder than a fully maxed cobra, i knew it was loud. the amp room is hardcore soundproofed with auralex, inside the walls, in the room, and on the surrounding walls in other rooms. still almost vibrated an acoustic off a wall stand when we maxed it out, with the sound that got out the cracked open door. its an english one. guy got it from his dad, didnt like it, wanted a mesa so he could has true brootals. didnt know what he was missing. dont know much else about it, other than its signed and serialed by jim . If i ever sell it, you definately have first dibs. this is the 100w superlead, it doesnt have plastic rockers, its got metal toggles ![]() I love the damn amp, decided i wanted it within about 1 minute of pluggin in. i got it for a grand, in pretty good condition. The bridge trick is to bridge the low input of channel one, and the high input of channel two, and plug in to the high input of channel one. cuts some high end, like you said, and really just fucking cranks the volume by an extra 50%. its horrifying really. for now, i need a cheap cab. cant afford anything too expensive. have an rg7620 coming, paying off the head in the morning, and an s7320. an agile strat like edroz nabbed, gotta ship an rgt and pay for shipping on an epi dot studio and a dkmgt. I'll get a nice cab at some point, but for now id like to keep it below 650, which doesnt seem to be happening on the vintage marshall cabs. Do the blackbacks break up later? i thought the greenbacks in that one cab were awesome, but it was a little bit fast for my tastes |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Celestion | Guitar Loudspeakers i think those are the blackback reissues. the avatar page has the greenbacks listed as being like these, but 25w, and breaking up a bit faster. does that seem right? the hellatone 30s are those, just burned in already |

Shame that, but I'd look for a blackback one, I think most people see them as "not greenbacks" so they'll probably be cheaper. Looking at 74-77 or so I think for years, but I am not sure at all. Anyway, any cab with the blackbacks or equivalent will be awesome ![]() Quote:
![]() So yeah, hotplate time! Quote:

For me I love the sound of them, and vastly prefer them to greenbacks. I had a cab with greenbacks but never liked it.

So the hellatone cab is the one you're using? And it has those in it? Then the other post about loving the tone through them makes perfect sense!
