NAD (night before last)

Alright I came across a good deal on a small amp.. The VK 112. 50 watt two 6L6's and three 12ax7's. I didn't put it on right away because I bought it at night in the dark and got home plugged it in and turned the clean channel up. It was good but the speaker couldn't handle the bass my 6 string was putting out very well so I had to turn the bass down a bit.

Then the volume dropped almost to nothing. I took it out of the high gain input and put it in the low. "Back in action" .. Back into the high input and the power dropped again after a couple chords... Crap... Once I got my two year old to sleep I took it apart..

The chasis was missing one of the long bolts that hold it in and fortunately peavey puts two extra small wood screws in the back to hold it. All three preamp tube covers are missing... crap again... I start to check everything and realize that the circut boards for the most part move all over and the one that the PI and power tubes are in is missing most of the screws that hold it down..

Having parts moving around inside will definately cause this type of issue.. So I unplugged and cleaned every internal connection as well as the tube sockets and tightened the screws that were left in.. clean the reverb and cables and connections and put it back together..

I called Peavey in the morning and for the chassis screw, 3 tube covers, 8 circuit board mounting screws, and four knobs for my PA, it came to a whopping $13 with shipping....Sweet..

I've been able to play it a bit now and it definately sounds great and can get a very good clean, classic rock and metal tone.. It has a texture knob that turns the power tubes from class A/B to Class A power. I guess it's not technically class A but it does make them single ended and increases the output gain of the PI tube giving a driven power section tone while dropping the volume..

Yes... It worked fine yesterday and today. I just need the extra screws to make sure nothing comes loose again...
A guy about 50 miles from me had a couple LA Custom Shop Ibanez guitars for sale and I went to check them out. I played them through a little peavey amp that sounded great with the low tuned guitars he had. (standard 6 tuned to C with a drop B).

The guys name is Scott Danough and he played with Bleeding Through.. We ended up playing for about an hour and a half. Since then I've been watching for a good deal on one of these...

Sorry I didn't get pics. They were both flat black. One was an RGT 42 with sharktooth inlays and a lopro edge trem and the other was an RGT 2020. They both had emg 81/85 sets and edge trems but nothing too fancey. The 2020 didn't have the LACS markings..
