Quick question for those of you who run an OD pedal in front of your amp

What do you do when you switch to a clean channel? I prefer my setup to be as simple as possible and I don't want to have to hit more than one switch to go to my clean.

It doesn't distort the clean channel much even when it's on, rolling the guitar volume down a bit helps a ton too. That said with most amps it's just something you have to deal with. This is why most pros use separate amps for clean with a signal splitter when they play live.

So you're talking about running the gain on the OD pretty much all the way off right?

I've been thinking of setting my rig up to have a preamp specially for clean tones and then run that into the other half of my 50/50 but then I would have to run into a seperate cab or only use 2 speakers for each side in a 412 and I want to avoid having to use 2 mics for that, so I'm trying to figure out how I want to set this up

I just tap the OD pedal off or roll back my guitar volume if it's a problem. On my amp the clean channel has a gain knob. If I keep it really low and use the channel volume to crank it up I don't get distortion even if I have my OD on. The gain should be very low if not at zero on your OD if you're using it to boost distortion.

Yeah thats what most people do anyways man. It's the 'level' you want to boost up, that's what is going to tighten up the amp and give you the main benefit of the TS, not really the extra gain. I never run my gain above 9 o'clock. That said there's no right or wrong, if you want to turn the 'drive' up higher thats fine, but obviously then it'll be harder to get a clean sound with it still engaged

You can try a number of things. You should just get a separate pre for cleans if manually turning off the pedal is too inconvenient for you.

Yeah that doesn't sound too bad. I've been wanting to try out an OD lately and the clean switching thing has been on my mind. Like I said, I really like to keep my setup simple. I'll probably just buy a TS7 and play around with it for a while and if I end up liking it in front of my amp I imagine I'll want to get it chaos modded
