This is a federal beef, so you can at least file a complaint: The Internet Crime Complaint Center. The amount is enough to hire a lawyer to send a certified letter. That can shake people up (sometimes). You could even pay for one of those Internet information searches.

A good PI can get nearly anything on anyone. Check to see if he's on probation. If you're lucky, he is and you can contact his PO. The main thing is to be persistent . . .

Find out the
SHOCKING reason why Last Rites was called "scariest band ever" by the San Francisco MusiCalendar. . .

I've been scammed on eBay before. It was only for $20 or so on a CD, but even that pissed me off. I also put out $790AUD for a Mesa 50/50 3 weeks ago now, and the guy has failed to send it to me 3 times now. But he's keeping in contact (even if it takes him a few days to reply to each of my emails) with me, so I aint frettin' just yet.

Anyway, I'm pullin' for you man. Good luck with it all.

If you look at the guys history you could attempt to talk to the sellers he's bought from. But I doubt anyone would be willing to give up someones information if they still have it.

Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance only hides the truth. And the longer that truth has to hide, the more it stings when it makes itself known.

I'm calling the DA tomorrow, but I'm not putting out anymore money to bring this guy down, I don't have it. If it was like five grand or something I would definately see about spending $500 a day for a PI.

I'm doing what I can, but it's really amazing wow little anyone with power wants to help me. This is probably just some dumb kid who suddenly realized after he got the check that it was unprotected, and then he tries selling the same amp again and pockets the check! Again there was no mistake on my part, I just transfered the money to my moms account and she sent the check in here name.

That's not what I meant. You can get a records search for $20-30. Here's what I had in mind: ResearchAnyone.com. There are all kinds of services like this. I used to have access to one myself, but it was a few years ago.

In fact, I seriously looked into getting into this line of work myself, but it involves a lot of tedious sitting in cars watching for that one moment someone slips up and does something incriminating (like the guy who's filed a workers comp claim for a back injury, then later is caught doing construction work under the table). I once staked out a parking lot trying to catch these scumbags doing the "while van speaker scam".

I'm thinking that it would be worth it if you find out he's on probation. While it's a long shot, if he is, and depending on the county, it might be another way to pressure the a-hole. If he's pulled this sort of scam, maybe he's done others, or has otherwise attracted the attention of law enforcement. Needless to say, some people just never seem to learn.

In any event, if you can track down someone's phone number, home address, etc, it's very effective (not to mention potentially satisfying) when you give him or her a very unexpected call. Unless he's good at covering his tracks, I have a hunch he'd be pretty easy to locate. Also, if you haven't already, contact the bank for a copy of the check once they clear it. It will be a very important piece of evidence.

Then again, if you want to play dirty, there are other avenues that can be explored, but I'd never suggest anyone do anything illegal. However, for educational purposes, one may engage in such discussions ad infinitum . . .

oh, ok man. Thanks for the link. I may look into that. Those prices I can live with. I have a copy of the check, but the police officer that came to my house still has the copy and all the other evidence so I can't pass it on to the DA. He's doing a terrible job of returning my calls so he's slowing me down.

Can you get another copy of the check from the bank? Most likely the cop has an overwhelming caseload, so it will take him time to get to it. As far as the link goes, it can't hurt to file the complaint. At worst. they'll say it's not in their jurisdiction. Keep us posted . . .

Yes, get another copy from the bank. It might cost a few dollars, but worth it. Also, some banks will let you go online and view the transaction. You can see the check on your computer screen....hit PRINT and print it out.

I've used PeopleFinders.com in the past, and if you know the guys address you can see exactly what his record is. It'll give you phone numbers...the whole deal.
