Combining amps

a buddy of mine i know playes with a peavey 5150 and a 6505. one goes to a mesa cab the other to a marshall. now i want to do the same with my set up but i want to use my mesa dual rec head with my mesa red 4x12 cab and i want to get a 5150 or 6505+ and run the peavey thru another mesa rec 4x12 cab. how do i go about doing this and how would i dial in tones? would i dial more bass and mids from the mesa and more highs and gain from the peavey? anyone with this type of set up giv me hand on building this up!

you could either send in all freq's to both amps, just run it in stereo using an A/B/Y box, or get an active crossover and send some frequencies to one amp and some to the other, a practice known as biamping. thats optimal really, but more expensive. If i had the money, id be triamping everything, something i learned looking up Timmy C's gear. he uses the same amps even, just eq'ed differently. If you can afford it, it really opens up some control over your tone

Get an A/B splitter box that allows you to send the guitar signal out to both at the same time. Dial in the tone you like from both amps, then bam!

You can dial in one to have more edge and the other for more bass/mids, but just playing around and finding tones from each amp setup that compliment eachother would be your best bet.

Your ass here!

Marshall? I don't like Marshall's on their own, but they have a high-mid/treble bite that would compliment a Mesa pretty well, IMO.

Damn. A 5150 and a recto at the same time? That's really gonna cover the sonic spectrum and I'm sure it will sound amazing.

I'm jealous cause I wanted to do the same thing! Send me clips when ya get that going!

I hear the 6505 has a much better clean channel than the 5150, but I've been told nothing beats the original 5150. Machine Head has an amazing tone with them, but theirs are modded and their cleans sound good

I'd say 5150.
