![]() ![]() ![]() | What are some good speakers for reproducing the low B? so i've been reading up lately on speakers, as i'm getting sick of the stock speaker in my vox combo (my plan is get a decent cab, and then a nice head later on when i have monies) so i figured i should start saving for a cab. i read that apparently alot of speakers dont really reproduce the fundamental frequency of that low B very well... which doesnt suprise me as sevens haven't really been around all that long compared to the designs of most speakers. so i decided to look around online to see what i could find (not much, i suck at google) but luckily for me, eminence and celestion both list the "usable frequency range" of the speakers on their site. most of them for 12" speakers tend to be about 70hz or 80hz up to about 5k or 6k. now if i remember correctly the fundamental frequency of the low B on a guitar is around 50ish Hz right? i know the low E is around 80hz, but i forget the low B. so my question is this, is it important for speakers to reproduce the fundamental frequency well? and if so, what are some good speakers that are currently availible that sound good for metal and reproduce the fundamental frequency for the low B on a seven well? thanks for any help dudes ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | if i remember right the fundamental freq of the low B is actually something that a lot of engineers will get rid off in a mix so i wouldnt worry too much about it. Im not very well up on this sort of thing so i may be horribly wrong ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A is around 55 khz, B is about 62-63 khz. That's not really what matters though man. Those fundamental bass frequencies aren't really what's going to get heard. In just about every modern recording ever, the guitars get chopped off at around 80-120khz. Focus on the best sounding speakers, not which ones will put out the most sub-bass. That said, I'd really recommend the Mesa Black Shadows (aka C90s) if you are looking for high power handling and thunderous bass response. If you like a middier, tighter sound, the VHT P50E speakers might be for you (made by Eminence I believe). There's a ton of models I've never tried, all I can say is I love those speakers considerably more than the Celestion V30s, whatever they use in Marshall 1960 cabinets, Sheffields, etc. |

as for the tone i'm after, you know i'm not really sure, it changes all the itme, haha. i realy dig jeff loomis of neveromore's tone on the album, 'dead heart in a dead world' so i guess i dig a middy tone. but i also love to have a thrashy, djenty, kinda children-of-bodom-only-better kind of tone. i guess i just have to get down to some stores and play it all, haha. i was looking at vaders, but the artists page kinda scares me, ahahah. also i've heard alot about them having a monstrous bass responce, and i love to have a big bottom end, but i hate it when stuff gets boomy and muddy. i saw that they come in some of hte orange cabs, look pretty cool on their specs, haha yeah, i've heard that too. but stuff still sounds alot different when in the bedroom as opposed to in the mix with a band, haha. Last edited by mnemonic; 12-21-2007 at 04:03 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yeah, the fundamental isn't half as important as you might think. I've got a low cut that generally is set at about 90-100hz, and I've recently been messing around with my guitar that's currently tuned to B an octave below the B you're talking about (which I guess would be at about 31hz if a typical low B is 62hz or so). It sounds fine. ![]() "Tom, you're like 1 part a serious dork, and 2 parts the most awesome fucking guy ever." - ![]() guitargeek.com style rig diagram Pics of my gear Virtual studio tech testing ground Last.FM |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You don't really need to worry about those really low fundamentals, because you hear the overtones and your brain sort of extrapolates the sound of the fundamental. ![]() |

The main thing I hate about v30s is the harsh high end. They record well because engineers can just cancel out the fizz, but as a live rig I wouldn't touch them. Yes I just made that bold, it's that great of a point by me :pat on the back:

![]() ![]() ![]() | i read that he used a dual rectifier with a marshal 1960 cab with g12t75's, with a ts9 infront. i even have his eq settings if anyone wants them, haahahha ![]() and yeah, i hear alot about v30's having a fizzy high end, which is why i kinda wanna stay away from them,(unless i get an orange cab which isn't likely hahaah) man theres just so many options, haha. really what i think i'm likely to get is either: A.) vader 212 (althouh i'm not sure, as their artists site seems to show nothing but death metal players and hte like using their cabs, and i know i shoudn't judge gear by the people who use it, but man, i dont really want a deathy tone hahah) or B.) avatar vintage 212 with some celestions of some sort (or maybe eminences) so far i'm thinking either those gk12-100's, celestion lead 80's (i think thats what they're called, the ones that are supposed to be like c90's) or something else. |
