DIY Pedal Mods
Are there any places to get reliable/quality mod designs for free? I'm just starting to learn some of the electronics and how to do it totally yourself, but i'm not at the point where i can just open a pedal and start changing shit on my own. My friend and i are gonna build a fuzz, and then for shits and giggles we're gonna like totally deconstruct my (previously modded) DS-1 and try and make our own design.
jw. I wanna buy a Boss CS-3 or similar compressor pedal and mod it myself.

DIYStompboxes.com is a great forum for that sort of thing, and there are links to follow everywhere.
Shoot me a PM, I do this stuff as a hobby too. Jeff |

Monte Allums Mods - Pedal Mods, Pickguard Shields & eNut Tuning System
Monte sells kits and instructions to do some GREAT mods to lots of pedals! If you want to source your own parts buy these e-books: In search of great guitar tone? - Modify your guitar effect pedals to sound like boutique 'high dollar' effect pedals! Brian Wampler is a genius and a very generous guy to give out all this information. His books are AWESOME! This is how I got started. As always I am willing to help in any way I can. PM or email me any time you have a question! Edit: Oops... I missed the part where you said "free" ![]() Pm me! Tell me what you want to mod. |

ha. yeah. i did my first monte allum mod kit like.. two years ago? I realized it's really not rocket science, and now i'm studying (audio) electronics in school and my friend has been hardcore into it for a few weeks now, spending all his (college loan) money on effects and electronics stuff.
i suppose i'll wait out to learn more about the particular components and their functions in school before i get too into it. I don't feel like paying 35 bux for a book just yet if it's stuff i'm likely going to learn in the near future. |

After months of researching and looking for the best one I bought a Xytronic xy9-60d. I found a great deal on one! Anything by Xytronic or Weller is going to be good. Look for something with a nichrome heating element!

I like Weller stuff, myself. Don't get anything too big (over 50 watts and you can get into serious trouble with just about anything you'd be doing, I'd stick to something from 15 to 30), and go with something you think you'll be able to use well. I personally have problems with some pencil tools because I have a bit of a jitter and need something that can be more easily stabilized, so that can be as important as anything for me.
