![]() ![]() | ENGL Standard 4x12 or PRO 4x12 I'm helping our guitarist choose a cab (Finally talked him out of that overpriced Marshall )Its come down to a ENGL Fireball with a 4x12 ENGL cab. He is deciding between the Standard one and the Pro one with Vintage 30s The price difference is around £200 My reasoning is that four Vintage 30s will only cost about 200 quid anyway, so he might as well just get the standard and upgrade the speakers later. Is there any difference that would make it worth the £200 right now? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | both cabs are completely different! i ABed both and with an Orange PPC412, and well, if you look at my sig you'll know my opinion on this ![]() anyway, the engl standard sounded slightly scooped and with very present highs. Bass was very present and tight. I'd still take this cab over a 1960, which would have all the bad qualities of the engl v60 + flubby bass. The first thing i noticed after plugging into the engl vintage is that the midrange was WAAY more present. Almost honky. In fact, it was honky Highs were much more pleasant, and the cab sounded more musical and fuller than the v60 engl. Now to the orange: DAMN! this thing simply blew me away from the first time i plugged in! The bass response on this thing is the best i've heard. Mids are focused and present, but not honky at all. Highs weren't shrill at all, but still present and the cab sounded very consistent regardless of where i was standing. All in all, it sounded more threedimensional and hifi than the engl cabs. I should also mention that the engl vintage and the orange reacted pretty well to amp setting changes, while the v60 cab has a very strong character that make different amp EQ settings sound almost the same after a while. I also found this cab to be a bit fatiguing for my ears ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | why would he need to upgrade the speakers in the stanard...? 3 cheers for free gear! "Do you like burned toast with your JAM? cuz we're on FIRE!" ![]() |

![]() | im using a std engl 4x12 cab with the fireball and absolutley love it compared to the vintage 30 that can sound a bit to bright and harsh. the std cab with the v60 celestion sound great as said more scooped darker modern tone and the bass is super tight not flabby at all. |
