Good rack based noise reduction/gates
Any recommendations? I tried the rocktron hush super c and it really didn't do what i wanted it to.
I normally place the gate just before the power amp, or in the last stage possible to get rid of as much as possible. This may be the wrong place though, I dunno. Any case, what i want it for is to partially gate the guitar signal, and then to get rid of a lot of the noise introduced by the triaxis. help? |

ISP Decimator ProRack-G. You are correct in putting the noise reducer right before the poweramp. The ProRack-g alters your sound in no way but just makes it dead silent when you're not playing. It's dual channel so you plug your guitar into one channel and put the other in the loop between the pre and power. One gets rid of noise from your guitar and the other gets rid of amp hum.

Depends on the style of music you play.
I play with insane amounts of gain (seriously). I bought a prorackG on everyone's recommendation. Guess where it's at? In the box it came in. It doesn't track quick enough for my tastes. I like Fear Factory precision. I had to go back to my Rocktron Guitar Silencer, and bought an MXR Smart Gate pedal to put between my wireless and my preamp. Don't put the gate right before the poweramp. If you have an FX unit, it'll kill any delays/reverbs/etc. Put the gate right after the TriAxis. That's where mine is. (It's bookended with gates so-to-speak) ![]() Metal... Nuff Said!! NEXT SHOW: Oct 3rd - IROCK Nightclub, Detroit MI Website: www.justdefymetal.com MySpace: myspace.com/justdefymetal |

Well, here's the thing, I mainly want to get rid of the noise from the triaxis, but run any FX in the triaxis loop, and quite a bit of noise comes out the main output, so really do need something here.
I also like slightly gating the input signal to make sure that if the guitar isn't being played that it doesn't decide to squeel. And a slight gating on the output for rythm only, lead wise I do like to be able to have it bypassed or set to a minimum. If that makes sense |

Gain wise i avoid too much gain as I think it just makes riffs lose definition, so there isn't an overabundance of gain, but enough to make it smooth-ish if that makes sense. ie, i'd say on a high gain amp I use about 6 maybe 7 on the pramp gain

Is your TriAxis really so noisy that it warrants a gate? Most TriAxis' I've played were dead silent, or very close to, even at very high gain/volume levels.

well, it has always had a history of being noisy for some reason, and also the poor thing was converted from US to European voltage, as well as being in the workshop 3 times or so over the past 4 years. I haven't tried it out properly since it's last fix, as the power amp has been getting fixed
![]() Still, it is always a good idea to have some noise reduction and gating ![]() |

I've never tried it, but what about the Behringer Multigate Pro? 4 channels, so you can use one for your input, 2 for the output and have one spare. And it list at £78! Got to be worth checking out at that price.

If you have the cash to blow, my recommendation is the ISP Decimator ProrackG. I have the pedal version of the Decimator, and even it alone is enough to tame the noise that comes from my 5150.

Whatever you get, DO NOT get a Hush Super C. Absolute total crap. Particularly with a TriAxis.
Have you tried changing the 5th tube (loop buffer). It could be a dud 12AX7 putting some noise in there if it's only happening in with the loop in. Also 12AT7's instead of the AX7 in the 3rd (Dyn voice) and 5th (loop) positions cut the level running into the Dynamic Voice and post loop op-amps and can help prevent clipping. Aha, here's a useful linky http://hugeracksinc.com/board/viewto...2f0c05def80de7 Oooo, just re-read your post, you tried the Super C. You poor bastard ![]() |
