I'm pretty sure he was talking about live, not recording. Pretty much my reasoning for finding one speaker and sticking with it, since we are opening for national acts all the time.

another vote for X pattern speakers, great way to make your amp sound huge and a little more 3d.
I use Man O Wars and Swamp Thangs in my cab and love it. Thick bass, aggressive mids, and smooth highs. However every piece of the rig is important for really great tone, right down to the cables you use. |

I have been thinking eminence, but going for delta demon and private jack. If you go to their website, they have a listening tool (with horrible overdriven sounds, but good enough to hear primary frequencies of the speakers).
