on my JSX, the ultra gain is at 2, and i think the crunch gain is on 6 (knob's broken). as soon as i turn on my tubescreamer, you'd think i was running it much hotter lol.

you dont need to use as much gain on the amp as you think you do. I turn the gain down until there's that sizzle, but no fizz (i hope that makes sense). i hear bands running too much gain, and i just kind of sigh -they'd sound a lot better with a bit less gain.
