Paul Gilbert's gear questions (and other misc q's)

If you came into this thread expecting factoids about Paul Gilbert's phantasmagorical rig you got just the opposite, for I have questions for you.

First off, it's more universal than limited just to PG, but how would one make good use of a flanger like Paul and others do? I know Petrucci and Gilbert both use the EVH flanger and the store where I work just got one, but I honestly have no clue what I'd use it for. Tips?

Second, I'm not certain, but I think Paul uses Boss delay pedals or at least Boss delay. Anyone know what settings I'd have to put it at to get a similar setting to his? It's that sort of delay that when you set it right, makes you sound even better without sounding tinny or fake that I can almost replicate on my Behringer.

Third and most superficial, anyone know what kind of picks he uses? When I saw him at G3 and he tossed some, they didn't look like his sig picks which I already have some of. In this video:

You can get a good look and they look orange/red and pointy, so I've got no clue. Maybe he is using his sig ones.

Which brings me to my final point, for those who have used multiple Gilbert picks, I swear the red and the black ones are made of a different material. Both are labeled as celluloid but they feel totally different to me. Am I alone in this feeling or slightly crazy?

Kudos to anyone who actually read all this.

He uses a Boss DD3. As for the other stuff, not sure. But if you can use like some 1337 photoshop skills to enlarge this picture and check his settings or something, go right ahead and try.

You might want to ask down at the Racer X website (racerxband.com).
