![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Duals and Triples (tried the search, couldn't find a thread) I remember there being a post about the differences between a dual and triple rectifiers. I understand the actual differences, and the only thing I remember from the post was that the triple had more headroom for clean stuff, but couldn't find the post. I have a proverbial "hookup" in a guitar center in***edited*** and could get a massive discount on either duals/triples. So, what would the differences between the dual and triple be? I know that there is a $100ish difference between them, and I figure its a "glass tax" (more tubes). Recommendations, differences in the nuances, ect? Also, how would you say it compares to say a carvin V3, or maybe a 6505/triple X. Since there would be a fairly massive discount on any of the heads mentioned, price will play apart, but I want to make the right decision since this could be a one time thing. Thanks in advance. |

If your buddy gets caught, one he'll be fired, and two it's possible his guitar center will lose their dealership status, which means they're going to be SERIOUSLY pissed at you. I would not be advertising this if I were you. The Triple is not as simple as a "glass tax". It responds completely differently, and has a slightly different drive circuitry. The low end response is much greater, covering the full range of the Dual's bass knob by about 12 o'clock. Palm muted rhythms sound much tighter, and individual string definition is retained at higher gain and volume settings. There is no amp on the planet that does metal rhythm as effectively as the Triple. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hence the "one time thing" lol. Im not sure I want a rectifier. I love the tones, but it isn't my "never getting rid of it" tone. I think the carvin V3 is the closest thing with features, and tone, but again, I dont want to spend $650-$700 on something I like, when I can spend....well im not telling you the price I could get it at....but it wouldn't be much more, for something I love. |

![]() | I have not heard a Carvin V3, but I do own Triple rectifier. In my opinion it is the best high gain tube amp for metal. I A/B'd the Dual & the Triple for an hour before I came to the conclusion the triple was Superior in every way. One more thing to consider is the build quality. Mesa over builds every part of the amp, not just the chassis. Carvin build quality is not bad, but not in Mesa's league. Sparky |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | well you already said that the V3 is more your amp, for less money. so why are you asking? sure you can get a deal on the mesa, but it sounds to me like you actually want the V3 more - get that one. you wont be sorry either way, but try not to get anyone fired eh 3 cheers for free gear! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The only reason anyone ever seems to think about the V3 is because it is cheap and relatively high gain. I've never actually met someone who owned one and loved it beyond all else (they are always saving up for something new). Triple Recto all the way. I had the pleasure of playing one last week and it is a totally different beast then the Dual (it is WAY better IMO). _________________________ "Ah, she's built like a steakhouse but she handles like a bistro" - ZB My Soundclick Page |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Again, I am more than sure that I would like the mesa, but I dont really have a place to let it run right now (no jam spot, and I may have a tech job which will put me on tour for 3-4 months or more if the band keeps the pace up). I like the tones from the V3, and it seems to have more control over somethings (the two loops is a massive plus, as well as the smart loop system is cool, incase I decide to chorus the clean channel). I just dont want to spend money on a mesa if its going to collect dust, let alone not have everything I would need. From what I tend to go for tone wise, the V3 is close, and the mesa is kind of overused. I am still in the wide open phase. I plan on going down and messing with both. Never know, maybe the boogie-itis will dictate the sale. And the thing that is catching me with the V3 is the fact that it is already midi facilitated, as well as the smart loop system. |
