Well dont forget, that sometimes things happen. He might have gotten in a car accident, or had a relative in one. His dad could've had a heartattack, or him mom could've had an anurism, or he could just be a greedy scammer.

Dont get the hate train rolling just yet, but run with the paypal claim. At least get your money back.

I actually have given the whole accident thing some thought, cuz the emails exchanged really made it seem like he wasnt trying to scam, so its definitely possible that something happened to him, but one way or another i need my money back!

I'd start the process with Paypal.
I just went thru this a couple of months ago.
when you open a Paypal account and attach a checking account to it,
Paypal has the authority to freeze it (you gotta read the fine print guys).
I bought my Carvin legacy Cab from a guy on Ebay and initially he was totally
cool, once he got my money he disappeared. I chased him for almost 2 weeks
and got zero response. I filed my dispute and escalated it almost immediately.
would'nt you know it 2 days later I got an email with a tracking # and some lame ass apology.
It was delivered 2 days later. Some (most) people don't realize that Paypal
can take control of the attached account, and they use their regular
checking accounts for their PayPal accounts.
Big mistake if you're going to try and scam people.

Can I be the devil on your shoulder?

huge racks inc!

once, there was a super rad caparison on ebay for a great price, but there was only one blurry as hell picture and the guy only accepted direct wire transfer.

I've had that happen, too - people will drag their feet or ignore your emails, but they suddenly become VERY responsive when the PayPal dispute arrives...

I never just assume someone was in an accident, because it is far safer (for me) to assume they are being a scamming asshole or lazy bastard. If the guy really did have something bad happen, the dispute process takes a long time, and can be canceled at any time, with no repercussions, by the initiator.

Definitely start the claim man, when I bid on my E-580, E-bay suddenly sent me a potential scammer alert 'cos the guy got hacked. I notified Paypal and they immediately drew the funds into a holding account and asked the guy to explain. In the end, he was hacked just before the end of the auction and there was no harm done, I got my Engl, he got his money.

They can freeze the CHECKING account, as well? Man. I knew they could freeze your paypal account whenever anyone filed a claim, even an unjust one (noodles, I think you had a bad experience at the hands of an asshole buyer, if I recall) which is part of the reason I haven't bothered to tie my old account to a checking account, but I didn't know they could do anything to your checking account...
