Gonna get me a new cab, i think!
so, i own a JSX. it's sweet. i love it. beeeastly!
sounds pretty good pushing my triple X 412. however... cant it sound.. better? THE QUESTION: which cab should i get? yes im going from 2 to 1 because i only need one, and if it's amazing then there should be no problem! WHAT IM CONSIDERING (provided selling 2 cabs gets me close to the price of the 1..here's hoping!) Mesa recto (V30 or C90) - used, if i can swing it. i've heard one live, buddy had a gibbo LP studio w/ a different bridge pickup, and a JSX head - he sounded pretty darn good! it was V30 loaded Orange PPC? 412: i dont know what it'll cost, but i know the euro went up - im scared, but im told they sound phenomenal. i'm thinking slant on this one, instead of the straight that the guys here seem to favour. I can probably find a marshall 1960A on the cheaper side of things - i need to try out my friends to see how she sounds Avatar custom 412 with Hellatone 60/G12T-75 in X pattern avatar custom with V30/G-12T's i just checked out the vader thread, and if it's in the 1K or under price range after shipping, maybe. what would you guys pick, and why? bear in mind i use a JSX stock, and a gibbo LP studio. i need versatility and TONE - im pretty sure every cab on that list offers. and if you think i should go straight over slant, please state why (cuz i looove the slant cabs lol)
3 cheers for free gear!

I'd tap Orange cabs, but thats only because they are orange, chunky, and straight.
You can also get them in black. I can't really justify it beside that, but I would venture they will cost a LOT in the USA. ![]() |

Avatar cabs are fantastic. Unfortunately, that's the only one in the list I can vouch for personally. If you have enough, though, Orange might be a good way to go based on what everyone says about them. I've heard from a lot of people that Mesa cabs have a noisy and harsh high end (even though otherwise they're fantastic and solid), and Marshalls aren't as great as they're made out to be. Vaders are supposed to be damn near impossible to beat for metal, but I'm not sure how it fits as far as versatility.
So basically... You can't go wrong with Avatar, and if it was me, I might go with Orange or Vader if I had the cash.

Orange cabs are made in California man, the Euro has nothing to do with Orange pricing
They are still an expensive cab though. The slant cab also costs significantly more then the straight cab does, and looks way less awesome I got mine through Long and McQuade (you are in ONtario, Canada, not Ontario, California, right?). The normal price is about $1350cad but mine was marked down to $950 - I am not sure if Orange reduced the price of their cabinets or my local store marked it down because they had been sitting on it for a long time.

I'd snag an Orange just from word of mouth..
![]() In black of course. I'm gonna try to lay my 50% on one in August! ![]() (cause they say it'll take 3-4 months to get one made in black). |

From what i've tested so far (mesa recto cab, ENGL V30, ENGL v60, Marshall 1960's, some Randall cabs, H&K w/ greenbacks, and some not-so-worth-to-mention cabs), i can easily say Orange PPC412. By far... REALLY far... I got the slant one because i inmediately fell in love with it at the music store i got it from, but i haven't tried the std straight one... IMO, i generally prefer slant cabs because you get better sound dispersion (especially highs) when you're only a few feet away from the cab.

I've run my JSX thru a bunch of different 4X12 cabs.
Marshall 1960AX with Greenbacks Marshall 1960A with GT-75s Carvin Legacy Cab with V30's The JSX cab. out of all of these for versatility (which I need too , I go from Nevermore to Greg Howe to Joe Pass to Van Halen in any given hour) the Legacy cab sounded the best (so that's what I kept, it's V30's are aged nicely so I have no mid range honk)) the JSx cab came in second (sounded more compressed) and the 2 MArshall cabs sounded the weakest. (bland sounding which surprised me because my 5150 combo sounds great thru the Greenbacks). I'd look into one of the new AVATAR "vintage" 4 X12 cabs. They're over sized and you could get an intersing X pattern V30's with a pair of something else (C90's would be cool) and it will cost you the least amount of money. or you could get something like this and load it with whatever you like eBay: MOJO 4x12 Guitar Cabinet with Marshall SP Grillcloth (item 220129398485 end time Jul-16-07 05:59:08 PDT)
Can I be the devil on your shoulder?
