![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 5150 III I just picked up the September 2007 issue of Guitar World today and they had a whole huge section dedicated to Van Halen and his new EVH 5150 III. This one goes through Fender instead of Peavey but it looks awesome. 3 Channels, Four 6L6, and Eight Preamp Tubes... Heavy. Oh yea and list price is 2k. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | better than the rumored 3k. street price is probably what, $1599? $1699? For a three channel metal amp that's pretty much in competition with a Mesa/Peavey, it's pretty close. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It comes in black or white tolex. And then its grille is black with random black stripes in the metal to look like his guitars. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I played one not long ago and posted up about it here but the thread totally got jacked. It was brand new and the third channel did not work at all, it had been in the store for maybe a week the salesman said before I tried it out. The first channel was nice and clean, a good round Fender sound that could get pretty plucky. It would break up really gently and give you a nice smooth bluesy sound or almost a David Gilmour style lead tone. The second channel was a great Marshall crunch, it was one of the few amps I've played that actually has enough gain on the rhythm channel for me to use it. It was really dynamic and uncompressed (I thought it would be just the opposite to hide EVH's sloppy playing ) with a sharp attack at the same time. It is definitely not a sound descended from the Peavey 5150 in any way on this channel. Then the third channel was just completely broken, but the salesman said it didn't get anywhere near 5150 territory because apparently EVH "hated that amp" and he was actually going to get Marshall to make him a EVH signature Vintage Modern head instead of going the Fender route. _________________________ "Ah, she's built like a steakhouse but she handles like a bistro" - ZB My Soundclick Page |
