My amp choosing troubles
Well, for the last year or so, me and my other guitar playing band-mate have been saving our university stipendies and whatnot, hoping to finaly complete our rigs. We got tired of borrowing and renting other people's amps, and man does it suck having to gig with an amp you didn't get to know properly.
So, now that we have some dough in our pockets - and not much, think 6505/Fireball money - we're out for a cool combo of (different) amps. Something to use for our debut that we'll hopefully start recording in few months time. So here's what's been bugging me: The other guy, well he has no problem. He's all about metal and needs no more than one channel of ultimate death and destruction. That should also be my priority, but I feel reluctant on spending that much money on something that is one-purpose only. I'm also into R&B and funk, and would love to be able to funk on that same amp. Is there anything in my price range that would cover it? Or, if not, could I cover that with some pre-amp? I heaven't had the chance to try a number of amps, but there's just a few dealers here anyway. Apart from some Peavey stuff, everything else I'd have to order without getting to try it out. Just for some reference, our band's myspace page is - www.myspace.com/throughart . There's an old demo there, recorded with a tripleXXX that i didn't like at all(but was the only thing available aside from a ss Randall that I belive we should've used). |

Any 4 channel Engl should give you all the tones you could want. I'd recommend a Screamer 50 and boosting it with an OD to get death metal.

I don't necessarily need that much channels. I can settle with only two - if they're really good. I belive I could get a kickass distortion tone from any ENGL - but is their clean so good that it could carry a gig by itself(if you know what i mean)?
Tnx man, appreciate it ![]() |

Engls are capable of great cleans and can certainly carry a tune when used clean. i don't know how they compare to a Mark IV but the Engl cleans are killer on their own.
