![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Plain 26 gauge 3rd string I just did a massive stock up on strings from strings direct. When ordering a couple of backup sets for my extended scale (25.75") Yamaha guitar, which I usually string 11, 16, 26(w), 36, 46, 56 and tune to C standard, I realised D'Addario made plain 26 gauge strings, so I ordered a couple to try on it, as whilst the wound 3rd string sounds great for chords, it occasionally feels a little wierd when playing lead on that guitar. Anyone one tried plain strings this heavy? What should I expect in terms of tone and tension? If there is a shift in tension, will it be enough to require a bridge adjustment? Also I've heard they're a bitch to cut. A .024 plain will give you about the same tension as a .026 wound. The only proof he needed for the existance of God was music. You'll probably notice it "stick up" higher than the other strings because it's so fucking ridiculous. I think it's a bad guitar string but yet I keep buying packs with it in them ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i am actually still looking for adequate strings to tune my 25,5" 6-string to standard C with enough string tension. I tried a .20 rather than a .17 (which waaay too thin) for my 3rd string, but i found it sounds awfully dull. Tension was noticably higher and intonation was not an issue, though. |

![]() | ive used a 22p 3rd string (biggest gauge ive tried) and yea it was a bitch to cut, and even more of a bitch to bend. fair enough, i did move from a 9-42 set in E std, and the 11-54 set went on as E standard again. but that is my experience. i couldnt imagine how much worse the 26 would be in E... but i guess u wuldnt be tuning to E, would you? |
