What am I doing wrong
Ok, so a guy at work owns a guitarshop thats closing down, told me to come in and he'll give me everything at cost. I finally have enough money for a half-stack and a 7 string. I buy the schecter Hellraiser 7-string and a 6505+ with matching cab. Now im sitting at home messing with it and im pissed because when i palm mute its not crunchy enough. What am I doing wrong. I have been searching for the palm-mute crunch like unearth, killswitch, early metallica and everyone said I need a halfstack. Now I have one, oplaying it on level 1 and not getting it. What are tricks, secrets I need help. If ure wondering what palm mute crunch Im talking bout then listen to Unearths "giles" when they just palm-mute. I was told by many people the 6505+ is all i need. Now i have it with a killer guitar and dont. Now be easy on me guys. Also i was told to run a TS9 on the rythem channel with distortion to get that crunchy palm-mute sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ive tried everything.

Belive it or not, less gain.
You've got your head down You've got your eyes closed You look so pitiful now Your body encrusted with ash Breath heavy with toxins Hair singed and matted Clothes frayed and burnt You are left with nothing |

back the gain down a bit, and turn the volume up (you have to, sorry! :P)

EMGs aren't the craziest for a big crunch...
Wait, that's not right... EMGs aren't the craziest for a fat chug...

Yeah most tube amps don't sound good at low volumes
![]() You could also get an attenuator to simulate load so the amp sounds better at lower volumes, but you need to be careful with them.

try this (I used to have a hellraiser 7 and I have a 5150)
lead channel pre = 4-5 bass =5 mid=4 treble=3-4 low res = 6 pres= 4-5 post gain =3 the 5150's (6505's) sound completely different when you run them at 1 or when you run them at say 4-5. they are much less "fizzy" the more you turn them up and they get clearer and crunchier as well. I actually run mine into a hotplate because tonally I like mine much better when the post gain is above 3 (but that is really freaking loud) I would never run the pregain on mine above 7. anything after that just adds noise and compression and you lose that "chunk" that you're looking for. If you don't have a hotplate you can run an MXR 10 band EQ in the loop and pull the level on it all the way down. It acts kind of like a "choke" , that way you can turn the post gain up without pissing off the neighbors ![]()
