rcfreak7772000 will become famous soon enough
5150 effects loop

i'm planning on buying a 5150 combo, because of the gain channels, but the clean channel is horrible :/

i want to know if it is possible to A/B my guitar from the 5150 on a gain channel, to a pod through an effects loop for cleans

it seems like it should work, but i'd think tube preamps pump out more power than a pod

thanks in advance

The problem is that the effects loop lies after the preamp; the crappy tone you hear on the clean channel would still hit the POD and the pod would then try to turn that into a fender bassman, which just ain't going to happen.

Your best bet (as a 6505 owner myself) is to either:
1) Live with it

2) Buy a smaller "second" amp with better cleans (expensive )

3) Live, run your POD directly into the PA, with a channel switcher to swap from POD (clean) to the 5150 (dirty).

You need one of these: Switchbox

It switches between your amps preamp and the POD to effects return. In the pics the white line in inactive and the red and blue are active.

The clean on the 5150 isn't that bad...a little too much bite though...However it can be toned down some

problem!? the clean channel is part of the preamp. So AFTER the preamp means no coloring by the clean channel, me thinks

Is the 5150's loop series or parallel? If it's series just get a GT8 and run it in the 4-cable method. Instant cleans when you want them, no external gear, and pretty damn nice effects too. Parallel loops don't work though.

I'm pretty sure it's parallel and just as bad if not worse than a Recto effects loop.

It is a problem. If you run your effects send through the POD the clean channel signal from your amps preamp will be sent through the POD and still sound like a 5150 clean channel ( ) ran through a POD.
