Opinions on Mesa Single rectifier heads?
the GC in Boston has got a couple of used ones.
What's the general consensus on these as compared to a dual to a triple or a Mark IV. I've been thinking of getting rid of both of my combos (5150, B-52 At-100) and just getting a head. I went in looking at the JSX and I saw 3 of these in the store. I've got a Marshall top loaded with greenbacks so I'm guessing if I wnet with a rectifier that I would be better off with a different cab too? thanks Nick Axe Fx II in da house

I like the Dual Rectos better than the singles, and the Triples better than the Duals. Never played a Mk IV.

im fairly sure that the mark IV is a completely different beast to the rectos, but i could be wrong (eh drew? :P)
best advice i can give is to try the heads through various cabs, as well as the JSX you were looking at. |

I would think so, but perhaps you can just switch out the speakers for some v30's. I've also heard that Avatar cabs are very affordable, so check them out too.

My buddy has a Single... He likes it enough for some rock stuff but he's selling it because the guy he lives with has a Dual and it slays his Single....
Mark IV is an abolutely awesome beast! Really my favorite head! And BTW, if you ever make a move and sell the 5150 please let me know ASAP! I have some retarded GAS for one!
Up the shut ...., you must.

I have years of experience with both the Single and the Dual. The singles I don't recommend. They just don't possess the same warmth and girth of the Duals. They sound more compressed and thin, not a very heavy organic tone. They don't have any rectifier tubes like on the Dual or Triple. Just a sterile amp in comparison. Considering you can get a Dual for just a little bit more, I don't think its worth getting a Single ever.
Also, when you try to crank a Single to keep up with a loud drummer, it just farts out and sounds like ass because of the decreased headroom and over the top tube sag. Besides, if you want 50w, you can just pull two of the tubes on a Dual and still have a better sound. |

ok thanks guys
I don't know what I'm going to do just yet but I guess if I decide to go Recto I'll look for a dual or a triple. Axe Fx II in da house

Well, I have a Single Recto and I rarely use it... The 6505 sounds so much better in my opinion.
Still, it's a good amp, and it sounds like a Recto, but like the guys said, a thinner more compressed Recto. |

While I won't argue with that (since that's what I use, and I think it's the best of the Solo heads), my experiences with the Singles have been that they sound pretty good. The do lack the punch of the more powerful heads, though.
Division - American metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on Facebook, and Soundclick might eventually be updated, too.

I actually prefer the Singles to the duals. They may lack the punch and headroom of the higher-wattage ones, but for me the slightly looser, rounder response is a good thing.
