I am buying a GSP 2101 from a friend and wanted to know where I could get upgrade chips besides ebay. And will getting an upgrade chip for a 2112 or 2120 work for the 2101? Or can you only put an upgrade chip in it to make it a 2101 artist?

2112/2120 chip wont work in a 2101. You need the ones on ebay. They are no longer made by digitech, so thats really your only option.

So there is a special chip that actually turns the 2101 into the 2112 or 2120?
A friend of mine said he called digitech and he said they told him they could upgrade it for you. I dont know if thats true or not but its worth the try to call them myself!

2112 can be upgraded to a 2120

2101 can not be upgraded to either the 2112 or 2120.

But does the 2101 you're buying have the second ppc-210 chip? And just need the version 3.0 chip? Or does it only have the one ppc-210 chip?

Chris, and others on the board will back me up in saying that the second PPC chip is well worth getting. It'd be cheaper to get a 2101 with the second chip on ebay, than it would be to buy your friends 2101 and get the second chip separately, but I can understand wanting to buy from a friend.

It has the original chip in there and its not the 3.0 chip. I have seen those chips on ebay to upgrade the 2101 to a 2101 artist and his does not have the artist presets. But I am buying it with the foot one controller and both are in mint condition for $125.00. So I can always sell it for more if I dont want it sometime in the future.

Perhaps someone like Chris can correct me, but i'm pretty sure the v 3.0 chip is what gives the artist presets, where as the ppc chip doubles the processing power, and allows for seamless patch changing. The ppc chip doesn't give the artist presets as far as I know.

hmmm. ppc chip for seemless patch changing is what I need. I dont know then if his has that or not. Havent messed with the foot controller yet to see if his has seemless patch changing or not.

I think the single ppc chip will do seamless changes if the patches are fairly basic. But if you have a lot of effects on the patch, then there would be a delay.

I wish Chris would friggin chime in though. He knows the 2101 inside and out. My digitech knowledge mostly revolves around the 2120

And by the way, even without the extra ppc, $125 is a pretty damn good price. If the foot controller is in good condition, you could sell that for almost that much.
