if it was a dsl then maybe if you liked marshall voicings, just maybe you would consider it, but dude, for metal the fireball is a nobrainer, i played a mark III and found it to be one of those tweaker amps, cuz for the life of me i couldnt get it to djent....ok thats shallow i know, but i just couldnt get any sort of high gain tone i liked out of it, the clean was nice tho!

Its true... Marks don't get very djenty at all. I was trying out my COW tuned to drop F last night and it was not cool at all, they just don't do well down that low. Even in B standard I am not that happy with how it sounds, because even with an EMG 81-7 the gain doesn't get as saturated I would like.
I'm still going to keep it to set myself apart from the crowd that do play "modern" sounding amps, but if I would trade it for anything, it would be an Engl Fireball.

Having played one with the Mesa cab with 2 G12H-100s and 2-EVM12LS, I can say it handled the low B just fine, but it's voiced for that cab. However, it didn't djent, you are correct.

Division - American metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on MySpace, and Soundclick, too.

the mark IIIs are great amps. they may not be modern in the same voicing in the recto/5150 kind of way. but they have more than enough gain to do metal for sure. they are (depending on the model) slightly more agressive sounding than mark IVs. (mark IVs lead channel is 95% the same as the IIC+ lead, ie smoother) yes, they are tweeker amps. if any amp is its a mark series amp, lol. but once you find than sweet spot, oh jeez.

also, there are many different models designated with colored striped above the power cords. (black dot/no dot, purples stripe, blue stripe, red stripe, green stripe.) each with a little of their own flavor.

i got a chance to sit down with one a couple times at GC with a red stripe. and i got it (after a little while) to sound phenominal. but then the guitar guy came over and put the graphic EQ in the most extreme V pattern he could and was like "METAL!!!" i stared at him with a straight face and said "i like mids" and went back to playing.... my friends couldn't stop laughing

"are there gonna be snacks? i heard there were gonna be snacks."
