![]() | My band's dilemma part Deux... So the other guitarist in my band ditched his cheap fx pedal he was using in front of his Crate Excalibur and is now using the amp's distortion. It is louder and sounds a lot better cept now the speaker cab is farting out a lot. I did not have to turn down as much so thats good. The drummer did not have to soften up his playing so thats good. The other guitarist's tone is a lot better, louder, and cuts better so thats good. Once we can figure out his cab farting out, we should be in business. His amp actually sounds pretty good with mine. One thing I thought of is to maybe add another cab? I may have a few hundred dollhairs to spend on another cab (which would be great because I don't have an amp at home and both my 2x12's are at the practice space.. I could transport my 5150 to and from practice and leave a cab at home) and I am wondering if that would help at all? I am thinking about picking up another Avatar to match my current one and then he could use my other 2x12 along with his Ampeg 4x12. If I go the Avatar route, I need to get different speakers than the ones I currently have (hellatones 60's). I have Sheffield 1234's in my second cab and I love the way they sound. I would need something from Avatar that handles highs and mids well and is also somewhat bright sounding and with a lot of bite to it.. any ideas? The other guitarist will be in no position to buy anything until his house sells. That could take quite a while and I really need something to play through at home. Is another cab a bad idea? For some reason. I think that if we added another cab to his rig it would help lighten the load on his 4x12... I could be totally wrong. If so, what other options could we explore? I'll post a link to my other thread incase anyone wants to check it out. My band's amp problem... advice needed After Simon bites that Skeleton’s face in half, he is going to rape that hydra. That’s how Simon rolls.. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | he needs a cab taht wont fart out? check out a peavey triple X 412. it holds its own with a JSX cranked, and thats with a les paul (w00t low end). 400W power handling doesnt hurt either. and they're only around 500$ New. 3 cheers for free gear! ![]() | what causes a cab to fart out? I am assuming it has something to do with the cab not being able to handle the wattage the head is sending it or something? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | it means the low end and volume are teaming up to own your tone. triple X - affordable, well built, handles low tunings well (i was in drop C, it was fine). |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If you're going to add another cab to his existing one, it should have the same speakers in it, or speakers that compliment what he's got. Since it sounds like he's got a cheap cab, though, I'd support the idea of replacing it with one new one that can handle the volume better. You could probably get by with just buying the speakers and putting them in his existing cab if money is an issue. Another thing you could try is turning down the bass frequencies on his amp. The mids and highs aren't likely to cause a speaker to do that, and I'd imagine the cab that came with the head should be able to work with it well enough. As for your new cab, Avatar does rock. The description you gave makes me want to suggest V30's, but if you don't like the Hellatone 60, then V30's might not be a good idea. If that kind of sound isn't your thing, maybe some Eminence speakers of some sort would be more up your alley.
