I don't see why not. I think every Digitech processor I've ever laid hands on had the option to bypass the modeling.

So for a decent little rack setup, what would I need besides this and a power amp? Would you need a noise supressor for something like that? I was thinking of getting this as a power amp.

The Carvin should make a fine power amp.

The only thing you may want to look at in addition is a foot controller (pedal board).

Yeah, I know that, was just curious about the actual rack itself. Do digitech make a decent pre-amp? I've never played around with their stuff, but generally I thought you'd want to avoid using the same unit for pre-amp and effects.

The only reason to avoid using it as a preamp is if it sounds like crap. Which I don't think it will. So for a decent rack system, you'd only need a poweramp in addition to this.

Woot. Shouldn't be too long before I pull the trigger on a rack system. I'm still debating whether to get a modelling unit like this or go with a tube pre-amp. I'm not a tube snob so I imagine something like this should be fine for me.

Nope. The noise gate on the GNX stuff is top-notch.

I'm sure many here will disagree with me but my is that you really get your best tone from power amp tubes.

I've personally found that most preamps that use tubes are limited in their sonic diversity. It was actually the older Digitech stuff that gave me this paradigm. The old stuff that used a 12ax7 in the preamp sounded fine but it ALWAYS sounded like a 12ax7. It didn't seem like you could really change the character of the sounds enough for my tastes.

But then again......opinions are like Mothers......every bodies got one.

Well, I'd have to disagree with you there, but only because look at what the unit is modelling, tube amps
