5150 or XXX
ok, so due to the conversation in another thread about modeling amps vs the real thing, i decided to look into perhapse getting a head, or maybe just a fling with one
, anyway, i hear nothing but great things about the 5150's , but i hear lots of great things about the xxx and i would suppose the 5150 shadows it in popularity , so, that being said, for those of you in the know, which head do you like better and why? |

Id go for the XXX its more versatile.the 5150 is a one trick pony but an excellent amp and another thing that i dont like about it is the lack of separate EQ for the channels.

I can't stand the XXX, it sounds not good at all IMO. The distortion doesn't sound anything like the 5150 and who cares about a clean channel when the gain channel sucks ass?

Both the XXX and 5150 rule, IMO. The cleans on both kind of suck, but the XXX is slightly better. The gain channels are both crushing, just in different ways. The 5150 has more of that open, raw sound; while the XXX is more tighter and a little more wet, maybe even more processed sounding.

I know it's probably a personal taste thing but i think the 5150 slays the XXX. |
