Good, cheap vocal preamp for computer recording?

So last night I plugged my guitar into my Toneport UX2 for the first time since I got my GNX3000 and holy fuck it sounded like shit! I had just got done playing with the GNX and I could NOT get the UX2 to make a sound I was pleased with no matter what I did. I immediately went to the internet to list it for sale on all the forums until I realized that I don't have any other means of a mic preamp. The preamp models on the UX2 DO sound pretty good but the guitar modeling is bad enough compared to the digitech to make me want to get rid of it. It's sad I loved that little thing before. Anyway, I think the toneport has to go so I need a dedicated mic preamp to take its place. Maybe this?

The Behringer MIC200 is great, if all you want is a mic preamp. I have 2. Plus, they use a 12AX7* tube, and they have adjustable "modelling" settings.

This website gives a nice little review, and has a terrific audio sample using a condensor mic with spoken vocals. http://www.podsqod.com/2005/09/19/po...ringer-mic200/

*I'm going to try a Tungsol 12AX7 in mine.

What are you using for a recording interface currently, Joe? I'm sure they're not amazing, but I've been happy enough with the pres in my Firewire 410.

Presonus blue tube

They're awesome for the price.

Right now I'm using the Toneport and it's good for that.

It does sound good but I need phantom power. I like condensers for vocals.

Why not just buy an inline phantom power transformer? You know, not so long ago, NO mixers/preamps came with built in phantom power. You can probably get one for under 50 bones.

I'd steer clear of that behringer "tube" unit. It doesn't even use the tube, just sends voltage through it in "starved plate" fashion.

The presonus stuff is nice, ART makes some good stuff too.
