Distortion pedals

What sort of amp/guitar are you using and what sort of sound are you after ?
There's really hundreds of different distortion and overdrive pedals on the market.

a classic way to start would be the Boss DS-1.

if your amp's distortion isnt cutting it, good luck. find an amp with such a good distortion channel that you dont think twice about pedals - in the end, it's what you'll end up doing anyway.

i got a line 6 distortion modeler, kicks ass, but dont get boss pedals, the effects are allright, but when you stomp them, there is a click or seam of some sort on most of them, i had a digital delay and loved it, but i couldnt seamlessly use it

i get no click whatsoever from my DS-1. might be an exception, though, i haven't tried many other Boss pedals.

Rocktron Silver Dragon. Pure evilness in a pedal and it has two channels. This thing is seriously mean and goes from rather classic tubescreamer style sounds to all out chainsaw distortion. And the tube in there really warms it up and makes it more natural sounding.

I really like Tech21's distortions. I also have an old Digitech PDS-1550 Programmable Distortion that just kills.

Oh, i forgot another one that sounds absolutely killer with guitar:

The BOSS ODB-3 Bass Overdrive. Very thick and meaty.
