With the head, the tube closest to the powertubes is the FX loop tube, with v1 being farthest from the PT's.

Not sure on the combo .

I am pretty sure that the V5 (balanced tube) is the one closest to the power tubes as well. I can not believe that the owners manual does not list that.

**Off Topic** I was checking out your tunes Jeff. Pretty sweat especially like the tone on You (niverse) All. You have a very similar style to me and my bro. Now that I thought of it do you have Sneap's C4 settings (preferably image since I don't use Pro Tools)?

Youniversall is waaaaay old - how'd you find the link to that? I can't stand the tone on that, TBH - I've since been getting tones that crush it by micing up my 5150.

I don't use the C4, but here's his settings:

5150 combo tubes
take the back off an lay it down on it's face and come
around so the controls are closest to you(so the tubes are pointing up)
(and I know we're looking at this the same way from the same angle)
the first tube on the left is V1. they go left to right.
you've got 5 pre amp tubes V1-V4 are for the channels and the reverb (v4)

v5 is the phase inverter and is the on furthest to the right (closest to the power tubes).

V1 has the most effect overall on tone I have tung sols in V1,V2, and JJ's the rest of the way.
Put a balanced tube in v5 (phase inverter) for best results.
and lose those crappy stock power tubes. your ears will thank you

Now get metal

Can I be the devil on your shoulder?

my understanding was that as a general rule for tube amps, whichever preamp tube is closer to the input jack on the amp is the first in the series...

On the 5150 head the V1 Tube is the furthest on the right as you look at the back of the amp.

Was looking for this the other night to retube my 5150. You're all wrong! THe 5150/6505 and 5150II/6505+ are weird and don't go sequential. FJA has the tube layout here, so be warned kiddies, it's not what you thought it was!
