recommend me an amp and multi-effects pedal!

I've been considering lately getting a flextone iii 2x12 combo, but i figured with the full floorboard (since you really need that to get all the goodies), that'd probably run me somewhere around 900-1000 altogether, and i figure for that i might be able to get an actual tube combo or something and a multi effects pedal. I need an amp that has a good clean channel and a good distortion sound (i play metal, so i don't really use overdrive and if i have to i guess i can roll the volume on my guitar back, but 3 channels couldn't hurt), and there's no way i'm doing a head and 4x12 cab, i did that before and I am not doing that to my back again, not till i get roadies anyways haha. If i want 4 12" speakers i'll just buy an extension cab and still have it be easier than hauling a 4x12, especially in my teeny car. so yeah, i need the amp for home practice, band practice if I can get one going again, and gigging live. And of course I'd need a good multi effects pedal, not concerned with recording capabilities on the pedal, just want lots of effects. Don't know if this route of tube amp combo and effects pedal will run me any cheaper, just comparing options for the future.

The Flextone III's about the only Line6 amp other than the Spider II HD that I would not recommend, so it's probably a good thing you didn't go for it. Especially if you're into metal.

As far as tube combo amps, I'm not sure if you'll be able to find one in your price range that has the right features that'll leave enough for a decent multi-effects pedal.

If you really want to go compact and easy on the back, you could look into the PODxt Live and a cheaper combo (either solid-state, or something really simple tube).

This is real good advice, Two Hands, and I'd recommend the same.

1. Effects - a) PODxt Live, b) Digitech GNX, c) Boss GT series, d)Vox Tonelab. All of these are great products with lots of versatility, good sounds, and tons of effects.
2. Amp- If you're set on tube, maybe a Carvin. A MTS 2x12 combo goes about $700 bucks. Those effects boards I mentioned before would total that to around grand, give or take. You'd be set! If you wanted a cheaper 2x12, you'd probably have to go solidstate, but the Behringer V-Tone amps are supposed to be pretty good, and the 2x12 version, (GMX 212) is a stereo combo, 100W, LOTS of effects, good amp simulation, loud, and supposed to be absolutely KILLER for the price (around $250 bucks or so).

Get the PoD XT Live, buy a power amp and a cab, and you should be settled.

Trust your ears.

In life and music, what is is but that doesn't always mean it's what it should. Change, is in our hands.

You can probably find a XXX combo if you like their clean and gain stages. I think then run somewhere from $500 - $700, but don't quote me on that.

No Soul has a spectacular aura about
1000 USD gets a used MkIV combo
and soundwise it OWNS everything mentioned here so far.
the MkIV has fantastic cleans that truly can run with fenders.
If you are into Metal, then I dont think I need to bring up its distortion sounds to you.
Plus, you said a 3ch is nice, and this bad boy has got one!

Used Carvin MTS combo for $400-$500, and a Boss multipedal. This will probably be my next amp, whenever the hell that happens (probably not until next year).

what would you guys think about getting a podxt live and running into the effects loop return on my marshall valvestate 2x12, just using the combo for the speakers and the power amp?
