![]() | You ENGL Fireball users... I've been increasingly interested in one of these amps lately, as everyone on here seems to have nothing but high praise for them. Right now I'm using a Dual Rectifier and am not perfectly satisfied with it. So my question is, how do the Fireballs compare to the Dual Rec? I play with mainly very heavy, death metal type gain and plenty of leads/solos, just for reference. Any comments, suggestions and experience would be much appreciated! Listen to Labyrinthine (formerly Black Despondency) ![]() |

![]() ![]() | I've not really had much experience with a Dual Rec, but I had a quick go on a Mesa Road King the other day. Didn't really get to mess around with it much but I didnt like the tone at all really. It was very loose sounding IMO and far too bassy. On the other hand every ENGL I've tried (my Fireball, a Powerball, and an Invader) have AWESOME high gain sounds! Perfect for me at least. If you're looking for lots of gain the fireball has TONNES, I rarely turn the gain up past halfway on mine. You can get a real nice DM tone with it, as long as you dont scoop the mids too much (but that sounds like shit on any amp IMO). Best thing for you to do though is to try one out, and a few other amps you might be looking at. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | I have a Powerball (very similar sound to the Fireball). I dont have much experience with Rectifiers though, have only tried some in stores. from what experience I have I think I can put it this way: the Mesa sounds smoother, somewhat rounder, more loose. I actually liked it a little better for leads. the engl sounds tighter, more agressive and crunchier oh, and be carefull with the gain-controlls. the Fireball and Powerball have HUGE amounts of gain (too much actually in my opinion). I play deathmetal kinda stuff myself and I have the gain set on 3 of 10 or something in the 3. channel (lo-lead) of the Powerball |

My advice would be to try out a Fireball, and see what you think. Just keep the Prescence low as possible. ![]() |

![]() | Both the Fireball and Powerball are a lot tighter and more aggressive than a dual recto. They also have a brighter basic sound that gives them a more "in-your-face" kind of feel. They kinda turn each note/chrod into a punch, but can slo sing beautifully on leads when used with theright pickup(air norton). |

![]() | I just recorded a band's demo where we used a Fireball and a Dual Recto. The Fireball sound powerful and brutal but lacks character (like a good PODxt tone for example), the Recto has such a nice mid crunch, that's really hard to beat. But I can imagine the Fireball suits your needs better. Of course, this is all very subjective. |

![]() | Does anyone know of any ENGL dealers in the northwest area? I cannot seem to find any anywhere without ordering (of course I want to try one out first). |
